Tea Cooker and Moonphase

These have got to be two of the most useful toys in KDE. I used them quite a lot when I was on Mdk 9.1, Since migrating to 10.0 and 10.1, they disappeared from my list of toys. Then whilst perusing the "install software", I noticed a toys package for KDE that included them. So I downloaded it.

With both Tea cooker and moonphase, all you do is open the program and they automatically appear on the panel at the bottom of the screen - that's what they did in 9.1. When I start them now, they do not appear at all... anywhere.

When I go into the Gnome system monitor, however, I discover that they are running, but "sleeping".

Is there any way to get these programs to run properly? I described my problem to my brother who runs KDE on Debian and he said that he had similar problems.

I use KDE 3.2.

Type: rpm -qa | grep qt

I get (and kteatime works)

libqt3-devel-3.3.3-30.mdk10.1.thac

libqt3-3.3.3-30.mdk10.1.thac

qt3-common-3.3.3-30.mdk10.1.thac

You can forget about libqt-devel but you should have the others (libqt and qt-common). Else try to update your qt packages.

  • 8 months later...

Solved - no thanks to you lot! :furious3:

It was a simple problem - I had removed the System Tray applet from the bottom panel. As soon as I put it back on the panel, Teacooker and Moonphase and other KDE goodies came back.

Here's how I did it:

1. Right click on bottom panel

2. Click on "Add"---> "Applet"---> "System Tray"

3. Go to the start menu and click on Teacooker and/or Moonphase

4. The icons appear in the System Tray

I removed a number of items from the System Tray that I don't use - Korganizer and others. You right-click on them and click "quit". It will then ask you if you want it taken off the start-up menu.

I'm actually not mad at all. :D I have been helped enormously by this forum in the past. Keep it up guys!
