Guest agnOstos
This is for others that may have or will experience(since it doesn't seem to happen every time you boot). I have a Dell computer that I installed Mandrake 9.0 on. Everything was fine until the 2nd day and then I was having a tremendous slowdown. Sometimes eth0 wouldn't initialize at startup either. I did some research and it seems the cheap cnet brand ethernet card supplied by Dell has known issues with the tulip drivers supplied by Mandrake. The workaround? I installed a D-link 530-tx ethernet card, ran Mandrake Control Center, hit the configure button and voila! No more problems. So if you're having slowdowns, it could be your ethernet card. Check what brand it is and do some research to see if it has any known issues. HTH
