Hi,

I'm running Mandrake 10.1 CE and OE on a USB external Harddrive, via a Compaq Evo N620c.

With both versions I am encountering a problem when shutting down, where the

process hangs at the alsa stop.

I've run some tests and heres what I know so far. All tests run on a fresh installation with no additional packages or updates.

On a first boot, shutting down hangs at alsa stop (Gnome environment used).

On a first boot KDE does not.

Rebooting in KDE does not cause hanging in alsa.

If the Kmix is opened, there is no hanging.

If Kmix settings are changed in KDE, then hanging in alsa.

Stoping alsa before shutdown is not possible.

I understand from what I have read of this that it could be linked to the USB but I don't see how, because I can actually get it to shutdown with no problems.

Alsa supports this chipset well, and I have had great results with this. I've also

not had this problem before when I built the boot image myself so that the USB hard drive booted . It seems to have started since Mandrake started supporting USB hard drives (A great idea).

Any ideas ?
