Hey :

I'm trying to install 10.1 Community onto my old laptop. I had previously installed Mandrake 9.1 without too much hassle, but 10.1, she's a trouble:

Here's what the last few lines of the install log (ALT-F3) looks like before it hangs:

* mounting /dev/hdc on /sysroot/tmp/image as type iso9660

* have to insmod isofs

* needs isofs

* succeeded isofs

_

Here's the kernel log (ALT-F4):

(4)hdc: ATAPI 16X CD-ROM drive, 128kB Cache, DMA

(6)Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20

(6)ide-cd: cmd 0x28 timed out

(4)hdc: DMA interrupt recovery

(4)hdc: lost interrupt

(6)ide-cd: cmd 0x28 timed out

(4)hdc: DMA interrupt recovery

(4)hdc: lost interrupt

(6)ide-cd: cmd 0x28 timed out

(4)hdc: DMA interrupt recovery

(4)hdc: lost interrupt

..etc...etc...

Somebody help a brother out!

Thanks,

DD

Let me give you the usual advice. If you have any usb storage devices connected, disconnect them when you do the install. Boot up with cd-1 and hit F1 as soon as you see the first screen. That will take you to a boot prompt at which you should type:

linux noapic nolapic acpi=off

and hit the Enter key. If that doesn't work, try this at the boot prompt:

linux noapic nolapic acpi=off nodma

These are the most common boot options used when you run into this type of problem. It's usually an issue with acpi.

Man, I was excited it should be this easy, but no dice.

Neither boot command sequences worked.

Other suggestions? Anyone? Bueller?

The resulting installs hung in exactly the same way as before.
