mdg
After trashing my system first time round with KDE 3.1, I'm ready to try again. I've downloaded all the files at http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/mandrak...e-3.1-rc5/RPMS/ except the "noarch" directory. Don't know what they are - do I need them? The plan is to exit KDE, delete the .kde directory and install 3.1 rpms with urpmi. How's that sound?
tyme
the noarch ones are just not architecture specific, i.e. i386/486/586/686-most likely you will still need them.
Guest jglen490
The noarch directory seems to be nothing but the internationalization files. You need them only if you use other than U.S. English as your language of choice for using KDE.
Ixthusdan
In the noarch folder, you will need two files: the mandrake-mime file and the language file. Again, you must have these two. So, not the whole folder, just two out of that folder. Sorry, as Dragonmage has pointed out, you also need the kdebase-servicemenu file. So, make that 3 files out of the noarch folder. Guest Bouddha
Just to encourage you, I just upgraded kde to 3.1 rc5 with urpmi from console, removed the $/.kde and restart X... All runs just fine
mdg
Well I tried it again last night, before I read the last two posts about the noarch files and ended up without a functional desktop, as before. I'm now back to 3.0.5 (getting good at this). I'll try again with the latest information. Maybe this time
