Guest lkvee
I just installed Linux for the first time using Mandrake 10.0 on a Toshiba Portege 7010CT. I have a few issues, but the one I want to address first is my Ethernet PC Card. It's a basic 3Com 16-bit 10/100 card (572/574 series?). Every time I boot, I'm told about "Hardware changes in ETHERNET class". Half the time, I'm told "eth0 was removed" and the other half, I'm told "eth0 was added". Every time it's added, I have to go through the configuration process all over. I'm also choosing all four options (assign hostname from DHCP address, track network card ID, network hotplugging, and Start At Boot) but not naming any host names at all. Anything I can examine further? Moved from Hardware by Darkelve
liquidzoo
As root, edit the file /etc/modprobe.preload and make sure yenta_socket is in there. If not, add it. Then save the file and reboot. That should clear up your issue. I had something very similar happen to me and that's what I had to do. To edit the file as root, open a console and type: kwrite /etc/modprobe.preload If you use gnome: gedit /etc/modprobe.preload
