Guest RockLobsterNet
Being very lazy and dumb, I installed Mandrake over part of my WinXP partition and now it runs chkdsk when is starts, but always screws up and I get a blue screen. Is there a way I can format just the section where Mandrake is installed so that I can then use PartitionMagic to resize the partition and give mandrake its own? Also, is there a way to use a Linksys wireless card with Linux other than with DriverLoader? It's a WMP54GV2 is that helps. Thanks. -Brian
feralertx
You couldnt have installed mandrake over a fat or ntfs partition. What probably happened is the mandrake installer used the unused space on your windows partition to make a new linux partition from it, and installed mandrake there. But that shouldnt get you no errors in windows, maybe something was wrong and the new partition wasnt created rightly or the partition layout got corrupted somehow, are u able to boot into mandrake? What you can do is download knoppix (a live-cd distro) and boot from it. Then you can use qtparted (which is very similar to partition magic) to delete, resize or do whatever you like with your hds partitions. Ixthusdan
WinXP does not share a drive very well. If you did not utilize the windows tools to resize/create another partition, or to turn off the windows virtual disk, you are out of luck. Try to use the windows disk to recover the installation. But it might try to hose your linix. Welcome to windows, the "superior" os!
Guest RockLobsterNet
Yeah, I'm just going to format the drive. I have very very few files on there, so I just put them on a CD. The comp I'm doing this to is a desktop that's about 2.5 years old, and it came with the first shipment of XP Home, so it never worked right. Fortunately, I have my own laptop to use as my main comp, so I don't really mind screwing with the desktop. Anyway, does anyone have an answer for my other question about the Linksys card?
