Problem with Gzip file ?

Recommended Posts

I have a problem when trying to untar this file:

firefox-i686-linux-gtk2+xft.tar.gz

this is the error I'm getting:

[root@localhost jmr0311]# tar -xzf /tmp/firefox-i686-linux-gtk2+xft.tar.gz

gzip: stdin: not in gzip format

    tar: Child returned status 1

tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

    [root@localhost jmr0311]#

I still find the easiest way to un-tar is to right click on the tarball and select -------> Actions -----> Extract Here. This will untar and create a folder of the same name.

If it will not untar this way then you can be certain that you have a corrupted tarball. It is easier and visual. It does not appeal to the 100% command liners but what the heck.

Cheers. John.
