Ed the N00B
Hi All, Having used Mandrake Update to download and install bug fixes security updates etc (I clicked to install all updates) I am unable to run a couple of 3D games. UT2004 crashes back to desktop just before the opening movie should play. When running Everquest under Cedega, the same thing happens when it should go to the character select screen (the first point at which it displays the 3D character model). Tuxracer is working fine and glxgears has fps of 3000+, so 3D drivers seem to be working. It appears that one of the updates has changed something to stop these games working. Any help would be much appreciated. Note: This problem was initially raised in the 'Emulation' section as I thought at first it was a Cedega problem. Other thread Thanks! Ed the N00B
Bah! Just call me Noob! I re-installed the video drivers and all is well! Apparently the updates included a new X-Server which then requires drivers to be re-installed. I guess I'm supposed to know things like this! axel_2078
Question, how would you reinstall your video driver if you didn't know where to find it? For example, when I installed Mandrake, it found a driver for my NVidia graphics card. If I installed some updates that wrote over the graphics driver, requiring it to be reinstalled, how would I do that? I don't know where to get the linux driver for my NVidia card. Ed the N00B
Get them from here: (instructions on the site and in Readme file). Nvidia drivers for Linux When I installed Mandrake, the driver it used could not do any 3D stuff, so Tuxracer etc. didn't work. I had to use the proper drivers from Nvidia to get things working properly.
