first off ill give you my info.

i have a plextor 4 in 1 drive dvd, cdrom, cd burner, cdr. Anyways when i installed linux, i only got the cd burner drive, /dev/scd0. It didnt give me a seperate dvdrom hardware icon... which it shouldn't anyways. I then proceeded to link /dev/scd0 and /dev/dvd together. Since i heard thats what Xine looks for (/dev/dvd).

My drive will play cd's it will burn cd's. But it will not play dvd's

When i play it... and click on the play button after the systems recognizes there is something in the drive. However i get this message

Xine engine error

there is no input plugin available to handle

'dvd://VIDEO_TS.VOB'.

Maybe MRL syntax is wrong or file/stream does not exist

then i also get something about css , and a link to a site http://dvd.sf.net

thats site tells me how i cant play encypted dvd's through xine blah blah...

anyways i would be thankfull to anyone who can help me play dvds on my system.. thanks everyone in advance.

Xine will not play encrypted DVD's which are about every DVD on the market.

You need to get the updated codecs for xine to play encrypted DVD's, use the DVD Navigation Menu, etc.

A good place is: ftp://ftp.easynet.fr/plf/9.0/i586/

You need the libdvdcss stuff and xine. I just downloaded all the lib and xine stuff and installed it all.... Everything works flawlessly with DivX, MPEG, VOD, VCD, SVCD, etc...

Good luck.
