theYinYeti
My setup is (Mdk10oe) TightVNC's Xvnc server running Gnome, and display manager GDM launching a session that simply starts vncviewer to connect to Xvnc. In short, I have Gnome inside VNC (all on same computer). For connecting to internet, I used to use wvdial, but something must have changed with my ISP, and I cannot use wvdial anymore. So I wanted to try the excellent Kppp. But when I try and run Kppp (for which I installed kdebase, i18n-fr, and many more), it fails connecting to some KDE-specific server, it seems, and it quits (even failing contacting the KDE-thing that reports errors). Just to be sure, I swithed to vt1, logged in again as myself (not as root), and ran: startx /usr/bin/kppp -- :2 And then kppp ran perfectly! So it seems that KDE applications are not able to run remotely (which is what VNC implies, even if client and server are the same machine). How can I make kppp run as expected inside VNC? Yves.
