Problems with both kernels

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I've got problems with both kernels and I'm looking for an alternative version are there any upcoming fixes?

Problems with kernel 2.4.25:

Problems using certain windows components. e.g I can't play most wmvs and asfs and it

freezes the process table when try to play them, same with wine and cossover office. I

also can't read some cds that have been burnt.

Problem with kernel 2.6

The mouse doesn't work. It's a ps2 infrared, it just doesn't move.

Is there an alternative 2.4 kernel that I can use? Since I heard that the issues ae fixed

with older 2.4 kernels, but from which version did these problems arise?

And which would be the most compatible with mandrake 10?

Any help at all will be a great help.

Thanks

Compile your own. Not hard.

Mandrakes stuff is a little dated but still good:

See Chapter 13

I had the the same problem with a optical mouse of mine. In the end it was the mouse and not Linux. I always had to unplug and replug it in to get it to work.

See that's the thing, I did try a 2.6 kernel when I was using Mandrake 9.1, I compiled it, but the mouse didn't work, I'm not sure if it's the same issue, I haven't compiled one with Mandrake 10 yet.

This leads me to think that it might be some kernel problem. Anyway, when I get some free time, I'll compile one and see if my mouse works.

Oh yeah, thanks to everyone for all the replies.
