I installed Mandrake 9 on my Compaq Presario 3900 but the only messaage I could see from my screen is "out of range", then my monitor turned to power save mode. Could anyone tell me how to solve this problem. Thanks!

If you had a successful install, then it sounds like the XFree86 was not set up correctly. The out of range error usually refers to the horizontal or vertical synch value range in the XF86config file versus the value range allowed by the hardware.

You may need to boot with your install CDs and do an update, or there may be an option under the "Rescue" menu that will let you fix that.

Try this first..

1. Insert mandrake cd1.

2. Boot your computer.

3. Hit F1 for options.

4. type rescue at the prompt.

At this point you should get a GUI menu that has some options.

5. Select the option that mounts your partitions.

6. Select the option that allows you to go the console.

7. Type chroot /mnt

Has all of this worked? If so, you have a linux system and just need to figure out your graphic monitor situation. Let us know how you made out?

Thanks!

I've figured out what's going on.

Its the Intel i845G graphic controller that make days difficult. Added to that, their homepage told us that no driver can be download to solve this problem. Things we can do is to wait until new distributions. What a mercy.
