problem during boot after install

Hi everybody,

here's my problem

with a dual boot mdk 10.0 official and win$ xp.

after the lilo screen,it starts booting, and then, after the usual messages,

a lot of permission denied errors, about something with etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit

or /gettext (permission denied),quite a lot of lines with (permission denied)

I m a total newbie with the pinguin ,and I really don't know how to fix that

Heres what I ve done:

first hdd : 2 partitions ne with win xp and the other with progs for xp

second hd : 3 partitions : one for mdk 10,ext2,one is the swap, and the last is the stock, and is formatted in FAT32 so it can be read from win and mdk...

The fun part is also that win xp won't boot:when I choose windows from lilo,a error message appears: "we're sorry for the inconvenience but windows did not start normally"

then it tells me to choose between safe mode,etc....

I tried everything, but when I choose something,it hangs up there...

so my pc won't boot, and I'd like to know how to fix this, without formating everything ( I don't like the easy ways, and I think that I would learn a lot from this,if I could fix it )

Thanks for the answers

hmmm, im not sure about those errors, maybe try wiping the linux partition and trying again. Ive never used ext2 filesystem before, only ext3, and Ive never had a problem with it.

You could also try restoring the bootloader by going into the rescue (or repair, not sure) mode and finding the restore bootloader option. This might (hopefully) fix the problem with windows booting.

Worst case scenario, have your drives been behaving properly in the past? All that permission denied stuff reminds me of a hard drive failure I had, but Id look at that option as a last resort.

Hope this helps somehow
