Mandrake 10.0 problems on ASUS s1300N laptop

I installed Mandrake 10.0 on my ASUS S1300N laptop, and I'm pretty happy, except that sound and the battery monitor don't work at all.

I'm pretty sure there is some IRQ or other conflict between them. dmesg says:

PCI: Enabling device 0000:00:1f.5 (0005 -> 0007)

PCI: IRQ 0 for device 0000:00:1f.5 doesn't match PIRQ mask - try pci=usepirqmask

PCI: No IRQ known for interrupt pin B of device 0000:00:1f.5. Please try using pci=biosirq.

Intel ICH: probe of 0000:00:1f.5 failed with error -16

That particular PCI device (1f.5) is the sound card. There is some conflict between it and the ACPI stuff. There is even a module specifically for the ASUS ACPI, but it won't load:

localhost% sudo modprobe asus_acpi

FATAL: Error inserting asus_acpi (/lib/modules/2.6.3-7mdk/kernel/drivers/acpi/asus_acpi.ko.gz): No such device

Setting acpi=on in lilo.conf results in the laptop not booting at all! Just goes blank.

Any ideas on how to get around this or what I might be doing wrong? I've been reading all day about it on the web, but have no idea where to go from here.

Thanks for your help.
