Hatepe
I tried to install the download version of Mandrake 10.0, but in the middle of installing the programs it hanged. During the partition process I selected an empty partition of 20 GB large. Then I let the installer do automatic partitioning in that 20 gb partition. The system hanged just after the CD#2 was asked (when installing the programs). It just did copying something and than the CD-drive stopped and the system hanged. Maybe the following message has something to do with the problem: During install it said: "the download version does not include some modems like certain ADSL and RTC. Also it may not work with certain NVidia and ATI-video cards." I have a geforce ti 4200 video card, using NVidia drivers AND I have an ADSL modem: speedtouch USB modem, to be precise. Maybe that caused the crash? To inform you guys about my system, below is a partional dump of DX-diag. Hope you can help me  ------------------ System Information ------------------ Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 1 (2600.xpsp2.030422-1633) Language: Dutch (Regional Setting: Dutch) System Manufacturer: To Be Filled By O.E.M. Hatepe
Okay, maybe this is interesting info: The system hangs when displaying this two sentences: Installing package aspell-en English file for aspell Does that help?
Hatepe
Problem somehow solved I decided to re-install it on the current partition and it now finished installation. Only thing is the errormessage "error in KDEArtwork-3.2mdk.i586" Sofar I can't run speedtouch-ADSL because of missing alcaudsl.sys. It copied it from my windows but now it asks for mgmt.o, so I am still trying to solve that problem.
Ixthusdan
It sounds like you have a bad cd2, whether from a bad download (check md5sum?), a bad burn, or bad media. In order to repair your system, don't reinstall, just go to a Mandrake mirror, download the listed rpm, and force an install of it. This should repair that problem. But, if you ecperience other odd problems, then re- download the 2nd cd.
Hatepe
Thanks for your help :) I did not know how to run md5run-checksum program, because at that moment I did not have linux running. So I skipped that step. I am still a beginner at linux (some years ago I used suse-linux 6.0 for a few weeks, but that is not enough to call myself experienced, very much not! :D ) and I need to learn about everything, from the commands to the directory structure. So if I wanted to run the checksum now I don't know how to do that .... So for that reason I will download CD 2 again. My ADSL problem still not solved and after reading some topics about it, I think I cannot get it right by just following the linux-installer. I need the SpeedTouch-USB-howto, is that right? Hatepe
No need to re-download CD 2: I just read in another topic that freezing during install is caused if you have an USB-mouse. I have an USB-mouse, causing the problem.
