Weird display problem

I installed MAndrake 10 on a toshiba sattelite 2210 laptop.

Install went great, machine runs great except for one lil display problem.

I get a band of (interferance) messed up display just above the panel, extending right across the screen and about 3/4 of an inch wide.

This band obscures the bottom of windows yet the buttons do still operat correctly.

I'm thinking it probably is something to do with the video dispaly driver, I do notice some background flickering when scrolling etc.

I have messed around with the configuration settings but haven't found any solutions as yet.

If anyone could help I'd be very grateful... Please can you dumb it down a bit because this is my first time with Linux... Think in terms of the person the "For Dummies" booke were written for.
