I have windows XP and only made 1 partition, I was thinking I shoud make a 2nd for linux when I installed it but I didint and now I regret it. I have mandrake 9.2(got it a couple of days before 10.0 ISO's came out everywhere becaus all the servers were overloaded but I just want to learn linux so I dont care) and I want to install it without reformating. Partition magic is very expensive and im only going to use it once so thats out of the question, I tried partition manager but it isint compatible with NTFS(V2.40). What else can I do?

See if you can create a partition using xp. If xp will resize itself, you stand a better chance of success. If xp will resize/make a partition, make the new one fat. The only other alternative is to back-up your data and rebuild the drive.
