eDonkey

Hi there, Surely this must have been covered over a million times but for one reason or another it keeps on giving problems. Tried to follow the faq and install instructions, noithing works.

Wnat to install edonkey. Downloaded core and gui. Dumped both in a directory called eDonkey. I think I succeeded to untar it. According to the networking faq I then have to write:

./donkey_s_44

That doesn't work not even with adapted numbers.

According to some other howto or whatever I have to do a ./configure. That doesn't work either.

Someone out there who can cover some basics here? Would be much appreciated.

Ehm, I'll try but I have to be brief, since I gotta go in a minute.

1) create a user to run the donkey under - not necessary to run it, but good advice since you are going to run a binary from a source that is not necessarily trusted.

2) open the required ports in your firewall (if you don't use one, start using it - realise that for p2p you usually leave your computer on for prolonged periods of time, and others get your ip address due to the nature of p2p systems. btw my server is now running 76 days..)

3) to run the donkey, just start the binary by doing

cd [path to binary]

./[exact binary name]

where you substitute everything between brackets with the appropriate stuff for your case.
