kirkzeus
Hi all I am a COMPLETE newbie to Linux, so please be gentle :) I have a PC which has an ATA hard disc to be used purely for the Mandrake install. I also have a SCSI adapter, Adaptec AHA 2940 with a Yamaha SCSI CD ROM CRW6416S as the only SCSI device connected. Unfortunately I can't boot off the CD ROM - hence a floppy install is required. I have got the 3 disc set of Mandrake V10 and have created a boot floppy using the cdrom.img. So far so good. Now when I boot off the floppy I get as far as the installation saying that it is 'Loading the driver for SCSI Adapter, Adaptec AHA-294x AIC-7871', then a window is displayed saying 'Error, No CDROM device found'. So what do I need to do to get the install to recognise my SCSI CDROM and thereby continuing with the install?. ++++++++++++++ A further development: I have since tried V9.0 which came free with a PC magazine. Now the interesting thing is that the V9 boot floppy recognises the CD ROM and starts the full installation without any problem. So, I' tried copying the cdrom.rdzfile from V9 onto V10's boot up floppy. And, of course, it didn't like it when I booted from the V10 floppy. So, clearly my hardware is alright. The problem must therefore lie with the V10 CDROM driver. Any ideas on how to get this to work on the V10 boot up floppy? +++++++++++++++ I am a newbie so any step by step instructions would be most appreciated. Many thanks Edited April 1, 2004 by kirkzeus
AussieJohn
Why would you want to bother?? If you can already boot up using V9 or what ever, and successfully do your installation what does it matter??? There are more important things to worry and learn about at this stage of your LINUX association (being an admitted newbie), and having an answer to this problem? is not one of them. To a geek the problem? might be interesting to solve but that is about all. Just do your install and get on to enjoying your new OS. Welcome to the world of Linux Remember:- LINUX is your FREE Umbrella graciously donated by generous charitable citizens from under which you can still look out into the OPEN world and have shelter from the rain or scorching sun yet still go anywhere and see anything you like. Like an umbrella, you simply need to learn how to properly OPEN it and to CLOSE it, and like anything useful and valuable you need to look after it and protect it. When you no longer require it then you pass it on to someone else who can use it WINDOWS is your locked-in box room with only a misty covered porthole to try to see anything and you have to pay extortion money every time you want to leave the room or get a different room. Everytime you want a repainted room you have pay for a new room but the porthole doesn't get any bigger. Cheers. John.
