Valavien
Hi all I am having trouble using ark and file-roller to extract a file that I have which is password protected. Can these apps do this?
arthur
uh... is it YOUR file or do you want to break the password? I, uh, have some experience with that. but if Ark or fileroller has the problem you might want to post more details about the problem. Valavien
Yes it's my file but in the windows version winrar asks for the password this one just outputs an error of incorrect password without an option to enter it.
arthur
Why don't you try converting it to a .zip file? I've never opened rar files with Ark myself, but I've opened passworded zip files. Sorry if this sounds like a stupid solution, but I never use passworded archives for security anyway...I know too well how easy they are to break. jdion81
if they are easy to break can you tell me what I can do to get the password back on a zip file that i lost the password to?
arthur
go to http://openwall.com. You'll find a lot of stuff there. I recommend using RSA-based encryption if you really want security, but if you forget the passphrase you'll never get your data back. What about unrar? I haven't tried it myself, but it has a switch for not querying the password...
