kilimanjaro
I recently ripped my first DVD and I was surprised at how easy it was, I used vorbis in a terminal, BUT I can't play the file. Is there something I need to do? Did I do something wrong? Do I need a codec? I am using mplayer.
tyme
what was the command you used to rip the dvd? honestly, I highly suggest the use of the program called dvdrip as it works quite well.
kilimanjaro
I don't remember what command I used, but the files are titled HEDWIG1-1.vob, HEDWIG1-2.vob, and HEDWIG1-3.vob. I tried to install dvdrip and it listed about 20 different conflicts, so I am installing mencoder and acidvd.
D'Espice
These VOB files are just copies of what's on the DVD - even more VOB files. You'll need to encode them using mencoder for example to AVI/DivX
kilimanjaro
OK I hane mencoder, but I don't know how to use it. There doesn't seem to be a gui, nad in a terminal I can't get a help list Is there a trick to this?
D'Espice
There's a pretty cool help and tuturial on the mplayer website: http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/menc-...feat-divx4.html However ripping those VOB files was unnecessary because by using them, you'll have a bunch of small DivX files rather than a large 700MB file. That's why it'd be better to use dvd:// as source, not these VOB files. Edited February 6, 2004 by D'Espice
aRTee
To install dvd::rip there are no dependencies problems if you set up your sources properly for urpmi. (See my site) You need plf and contrib for this urpmi dvdrip will give you all you need, then check the dvdrip website / tutorial for how it's used. kilimanjaro
OK I've installed dvdrip, but I couldn't find a tutorial for it. I tried ripping a dvd and I got 27 files, each abou 600mb. I'll admit this IS better than having 3 big file that I couldn't play, but having to load another file every 4.5 minutes kind of takes away from the viewing pleasure. So, what did I do wrong? :D
