mpisz
Hi I got a total newbie into computers and built a system for him with mandrake 9.2 as his OS, as he only mostly needs it for internet. Anyway an ATI 9600 {Saphire card was on sale so I got him that, big mistake, Nvidia runs smooth in linux}. Anyway I'm trying to get his card 3d ready for dvd playback and tuxracer and so forth. I got rpms from ati. Followed instructions x with no success. Apperanlty there is a conflict with MESA. If I get rid of MESA most of KDE gets unistalled as well. Funny thing was I was messing around with it, and I got it to actually work smoothly. Then I did an update and it's gone again. I get the driver to install under 2d. It says 3d should be working, but when I type fglrxinfo I get MESA as vendor. Has anyone successfully and reliably installed this card on mandrake 9.2 I've been trying for two weeks now an I can't get it back. 3d worked well when it did, tuxracer was smooth. System Asus a7n8x-x atahlon 2500+ ATI Saphire 9600, 256 DDR 512 DDR400
kde-head
you're not alone. A similar problem with 9.2 and the ATI 9600 is discussed here. After trawling through Google groups, it appears that buying and installing the Powerpack 9.2 version of Mandrake solves the problem. It's quite possible that the drivers have made it into the cooker version of Mandrake for the upcoming 10 release, so it might be worth trying out the latest 10 beta. (someone else may confirm or disprove that, as I really dont know)
