  1. You can check hotplug is enabled by using the following:

    chkconfig --list | grep hotplug

it tells me nothing in return... then I launched:

    chkconfig hotplug on

and here it is what I got:

    [root@localhost piccola]# chkconfig hotplug on

erreur lors de la lecture d'informations sur le service hotplug : Aucun fichier ou répertoire de ce type

it is french and it means that there is no file or folder du type hotplug...

  2. By any chance are you Satyr @ sciforums.com? Same avatar picture ;)

As for 2006, I've already given up on it, waiting out for 2007, hopefully it will be more polished. 2005 is very stable and with an updated KDE there's no real reason to have 2006 (at least for me). Maybe except SMART, but urpmi is good enough.

edit: oops, it seems that I had already replied to this thread and said almost the same  :lol2:

    Had forgotten! Exams.....

no, I'm peste, I'm italian and actually I live in france.

I could return to the LE2005 but just a week ago everything was fine and working for me, even if I was in Cooker. Then I had a problem with a hard dish and I had to format and reinstall everything and the problems began...

I checked out and I realised that I didn't install hotplug. now I have done it but still nothing but the led of my graphical tablet which is on...

    ciao,

  3. I'm experiencing the same problem. I tried a lot of solutions such as:

    - install LE2005 and upgrade everything via the net to the 2006 stable version. nothing

    - install directly the 2006 free dvd edition and then updated it. nothing

    - installed the 2006 free edition, updated it to the Cooker, installed the latest kernel (2.6.12.13) and tried to make it work with different versions of udev. still nothing.

me neither I am able to see the hotplug in the list of services in the MCC...

I think this could be a problem of unloaded usb modules... quite strange.

If you have any idea, you're welcome!

    thank you for your attention,

  4. USB? I think you have to connect via FireWire (a.k.a IEEE1394, a.k.a. iLink).

thank you for the answer... with the cam I only had the USB cable and on Windows I used to connect it to the pc via USB. In the picture on the link you can see my cam. I use the USB port (the first one on the high side).

should I use the other one?

I installed kino and dvgrab but for the moment nothing works, of course...

    thank you again!

  5. Hi!

I have a jvc mini dv grd70 and I would like to export some videos I recorded on my PC. I can connect the cam to the PC via USB. When I try to access to the memory card in the cam, there are no problems... I can see the icon on the desktop and everything works fine. but when I launch Kino and I try to control the camera in play mode, nothing works and it's like the pc can't "see" my cam.

Is there something I should do?

Thanks you a lot in advance and have a nice day!

    PS. I'm running a mandrake 10.2 rc2 (AKA limited edition 2005) on P4 3.0Ghz - 512Mb RAM :)

  6. Thanks guys...problem caused by the browsers plugin finder service sending me to the wrong place for the correct download. All is well as j2re1.4.2_05 is on the #3 cd of 10.1 powerpack. Its working fine now...Thanks again.

ehm... I just formatted and reinstalled mandrake powerpack 10.1 but I'm not able to have java working on firefox. what did you do exactly? I installed the version on the cd and then I copied the .so found in the /usr/java etc. file in the firefox plugins directory but all I obtain is that when I try to visit a site with a java applet, firefox crashes all of a sudden. the strange fact is that the other times I was able to make it work. (oh, and the same thing happens with realplayer)

  7. Hmmm......thats often the price of playing with cooker. If you choose to reinstall, then format all but your /home partition that will at least save your data.

If you feel like trying something else,  Download perl-URPM from cooker and  install with

    rpm -Uvh perl-URPM-(version rpm)

I know... I should stop playing with those things... but you know, it's stronger than me. I would have had kde3.4 and the new kernel and reading the other topics and the how to guides it didn't seem to be hard to follow and go through the whole thing... and in effect. but then, after downloading 104 packages (and consider that I chose not to take the kernel ones) when It was about to install them there was an error with some dependencies and the whole "processus" went down. I didn't think to start it again but the damage was already done.

you told me to save the /home directory. is it something I choose when the installation arrives at the partitions point?

    ;)

excuse me for my questions that may sound stupid. cause they really are.

    ;)

    thank you for your patience.

  8. Try running in a consol:

    urpmi urpmi

If that fails see if urpmi is still installed with:

    rpm -qa | grep urpmi

If urpmi is installed then run:

    urpmi drakconf

    or /and

    urpmi rpmdrake

    thank you again...

  10. Here I am again... I'm sorry to bother you. Here is my problem:

Yesterday night I followed the instructions to update some rpms to the cooker versions with the rpmdrake... Everything was fine but since then, when I try to launch MCC, k3b and even the urpmi in the terimal don't work no more...

I would like to return to the old configuration, the one I had before my great idea of the updating... but I don't know how to do and if it is possible.

Is there someone who can help me?

    I have a 10.1 powerpack on a p4.

ah! before I forget: I also lost the icon of the connection in the panel (fortunaley the connection is still alive).

  11. hi!

that's my problem: i wanted to update bittorrent on my machine but to do this I had to uninstall a lib and install a newer version.

by doing this I lost openoffice, bittorrent and the mandrake control center was no more able to work.

Then i uninstalled everything, I installed the old lib version, open office and via urpmi I was able to have back my Mandrake Control Center. Everything works fine now but... when I'm in the MCC there's not RPM utilities (install, uninstall, update etc.).

is there someone who knows how to get it back?

thank you sooo much for your attention!
