  1. How would I set that up? Also, sound works in mplayerplugin and (I think) java as well.
  2. Ok, so I just installed flashplayer 7 into Firefox 1.0.5, and it works great, it's got video and everything, but no sound. A few times, I've gotten sound, but usually not. I know sound works, because I've tried with Mplayer and AmaroK and such. My sound driver is: cmipci, with the Turtle Beach Riviera card. Any ideas? Thanks.
  3. Ok, so I have Quicktime working flawlessly in Konqueror, I believe via some Konqueror plugin (couldn't find it on the install list). Anyway, I'm trying to get it to work in Firefox too, but I simply can't find the plugin to copy to my directory, and using mozplugger didn't fix it either. How can I get the plugin to work in Firefox? Thanks.
  4. Now, I don't have Gnome anymore- had to reinstall because of something else. I've already set the file assocations for KDE, using %s. How do I set it now?
  5. Thanksees! That's what I was missing (DisplaySize). It worked, however, now the fonts are a good bit larger. However, there's nothing a little system-wide font-changing won't fix, right? ;). Thanks.
  6. It worked, but it launches in ICEWym rather than KDE. The fonts look a bit sharper though.
  7. Hi. I read about 100 DPI fonts and figured since I have a good graphics and am running at 1024x768 res and 80 refresh, I should use them instead, especially since the current fonts look a bit blurry. Anyway, I've done the following steps: 1. Install the package. 2. Change the order in /etc/X11/fs/config to 100DPI before 75DPI. 3. Changed the FontPath in XF86Config to /usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled. Anyway, after all that, X fails to start, but I'm okay, cuz I have backups :). What's the missing link? 8. What RPM's would I need to force? Also, on rescuing it, after booting from the disc, what do I do? F1 and then type "rescue"?
  9. Would a kernel reinstall do it? I trashed my installation before by deleting the kernel, and it actually worked. Considering deleting a kernel is pretty darn serious, it seems like losing perl is less than that, considering every other program runs quickly. Thanks for the help.
  10. So today, I realized that earlier I had mistakenly uninstalled my printer drivers. Anyway, I go into Mandrake Control Center, go to Hardware->Printer, and it starts auto-installing printer drivers to re-set it up. Looking at it, my printer is disabled. Oh well, I'll fix it, I say. I accidentally click on the Mouse buttons back at the Hardware screen, and it starts opening (at the same time I was downloading the driver updates). I don't want it to do that, so I cancel it. At the same time, I was setting the OO.org 1.9-some file assocations to auto-open .odt files. Anyway, the make a long story short, when I closed the Mandrake Control Center and re-opened it, it said at the bottom, "Starting Configure Your Computer," but never opened, and eventually stopped trying. When I shut down, it says it fails to close harddrake. If I try to access things directly, such as System->Config->Floppy Formatter, it works just fine, but Installing or Removing software doesn't. The only one that doesn't work is hard drake. Also, if I type "urpmi harddrake" it gives me this: Can't locate URPM.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.6/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.6 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.4 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.3 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.1 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl .) at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/urpm.pm line 16. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/sbin/urpmi line 22. Same thing if I do "urpmi perl" or "urpme perl" How do I fix this?
  11. Well, earlier I had accidentally set it to Mandriva 2005 whereas it should've been 10.0, and I figured since I had uninstalled and reinstalled, it'd be fine. But, the dependencies will still be the wrong version. That's probably why my reinstalled GIMP doesn't work either. I'll see if taking away the dependencies too will fix it. I got GAIM to work with an older 10.1 version off the net for now however. [EDIT] I tried doing as I said, and it fixed the GIMP, but not GAIM. I'll just use the older version of GAIM.
  12. Hi. I recently installed Gaim 1.3.1 on Mandrake 10.1 using urpmi. Anyway, when I installed it and tried to add an account, the only account types listed were: Gadu-Gadu IRC Napster Zephyr However, I don't use any of those (I use AIM and Yahoo). How can I get it to have those types of accounts listed, like it seems like it should? Do I need another package or something? Btw, during install it gave me no errors. Also, I've already uninstalled the Kopete that came with Mandrake, in case that could have caused problems. Thanks.
  13. Question: I've installed plugger via urpmi (urpmi plugger), and I want to enable it into Firefox, which is installed from source in another directory. If that doesn't work correctly, I want to install quicktime (which currently works in Konqueror) into Firefox. How can I find where urpmi installs its programs into?
  14. Cool, that worked. Thanks. Which sources should I get? Obviously Main and Updates, but what are Jpackage and plf? What's the difference between plf-free and plf-nonfree?
  15. Upon advice of someone on this forum, I decided I should start using Easy-Urpmi to start installing stuff. So I tried Urpmi, and copied and pasted the code into the console. "Command not found." Trying urpmi.update, same thing. trying "man urpmi" it gives the whole man page for it, however. So why isn't it working? Using gurpmi, it understands the command and gives an initialization window but doesn't launch the rest of it. Btw, my version is 10.1 Powerpack, and for version in Easy-Urpmi I selected 10.1 Official. Also, urpmi 4.5-29.1.101mdk is listed in the installed programs list. Finally, if I go to Update in the control center, it gives an error, saying it can't retrieve the list of packages from update_source. I've updated before and it's worked just fine, but I may have accidentally uinstalled something....
  16. Okay, I was wondering if I would have to do that. i've installed a few other programs from source, but they were new ones, such as Firefox Thunderbird and Openoffice. Urpmi sounds very useful. I'll try it. Also my version is 10.1.
  17. Hey, recently, I made the foolish mistake of trying to update my GIMP installation, and I ended up having to update GTK+ in order to do so. However, GTK+ required Pango, which required, Glib, which required Pkg-config. Anyway, I installed Pkg-config okay, and it looked like I installed Glib okay, except that I still need to uninstall the old version (2.4.6) to update to (2.6.5). Anyway, if I click that in the Mandrake Control Center, it labels it as having a bazillion other dependencies which looked like it might totally screw things up to remove it. However, trying to run ./configure in Pango won't let me go on unless I get the newer version of Glib. How oh how can I do this, as it's still not detecting the version of Glib I just installed? I think I'm in way over more head :).
  18. It worked! Thanks a bunch. I found the missing link was that in Gnome I had to include %s after the command (learned that from the help file :)). Thanks all.
  19. Ok, so I'm trying to set it so when I click a link in Thunderbird, it will pop up as Firefox, rather than Epiphany, which is what it usually does. I've already set Firefox as the HTML opener and every other file assocation that was previously set as Konqueror and such. I've tried setting the command in in HTML as both the path, "firefox" and "firefox %U" like mozilla.org says to do. I've also set it in Gnome to be the default Web Browser. Currently, clicking on a link opens nothing, but when I reboot the computer, about 20 instances of Epiphany appear, whereas before changing the file assocations, it would simply open up one instance of Epiphany. I use KDE 3.2 on the Mandrake 10.1 Powerpack. Thanks all.
  20. Hmm... I guess I'll remove what I can. Question: When you select to install only KDE during installation and then go into your installed software, does it have an entry in Workstations for Gnome? Are you required to have a bit of Gnome software no matter what? Btw, trying Linux for the first time has been AWESOME!!! I love it so much how I can customize it all and I have freedom. Thanks everyone for the help.
  21. Hmm... ok. I'll try that and see what I can remove. Anyway I could change the editor of rescue mode to emacs so i could remove vi?
  22. So, I installed Mandrake 10.1 Official Powerpack, anyway, I figured I'd try a variety of GUI's, so I installed KDE, Gnome, and IceWYM and such. After a while, I decided I want to use KDE. Going to the list of programs, I click to uninstall Gnome, however, it says removing the package "vim-enhanced-6.3-5mdk" would render the system unusable. However, I only want to use KDE, so it seems strange that Linux would need a Gnome file for it. How can I remove Gnome and others while not destroying my system? Thanks.
  23. Ok, thanks all. I think I've got it figured out then :).
  24. Ok, so I want to install Mandrake 10.1 as a dual-boot system with Win XP and I've done this before and it's worker fine for me. The only problem is that right now my Windows installation uses my whole hard drive (80 GB), and I want to resize it to about 40 or 45 GB and give Linux the rest. When I go to resize it with "Custom Partitioning" in DiskDrake with Mdk 10.1 CD1, it warns me about possible data loss. Now, I've already run Chkdsk and defgragged it multiple times. Do I have to worry about losing data?
