  1. Hmm, thanks for the quick reply, I just rebooted into Windows because the iPod was showing the "Use iTunes to repair" message, and restored the firmware/software on it, rebooted right back into Mandy.. and now I'm not getting anything, the dmesg shows it, but its not being mounted anymore, also, whilst in Windows, i noted that the iPod was using "Windows" as the file system... do I need to convert that to FAT? I cannot find decent instructions anywhere, if there is a somewhat simple solution i would like to know.. if it requires building a time machine, I will just return it..

    No idea where to go from here...

  2. So i thought i would buy my son an iPod for christmas, get it home and decide to load some music on it. plug it in... X crashes... reboot the machine, plug it back in, do a Google search, and find out i should use GtkPod... so i install GtkPod, soon as i go to iPod, the program crashes, i reopen it, soon as i click "Load iPod", program crashes... so i try the other alternative, Banshee, ANY change i make at ALL to any songs, whether i add or delete, does not take place, nothing happens at all, so then I try amaroK, and all i get is errors about it being a read only file system.

    HOW PATHETIC! EVERY person you know these days has a bloody damn iPod, why the DAMN HELL does Linux not have proper support for an iPod? i find this ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING... and quite SAD, VERY VERY sad indeed. the fact that a user has to go to such extreme lengths to get his or her damned iPod to have music on it, how very sad. NONE of the applications mentioned work, searched google high and low, to find jack all.

    ..... Pathetic. Very disappointed.

  3. i have an advent 6419, and i've installed mandriva 2007 on it, everything says [OK] and then it just goes to a black screen, i picked the right graphics card, SiS 630, and even tried 800x600 with 16bpp and even vgalo, graphics card has 8mb shared memory. wanted to run mandriva on this since windows is shit, but seeing as X can't even run, i dont know anymore.

  4. i'm trying to send files from my phone to my comp via bluetooth... i connected the bluetooth and went to mcc and under hardware, it told me that packages needed to be installed, after installing them, it made a "Communications" item in "More Applications" in my menubar, and theres "kbtobex client" & "kbtserialchat" I tried both of them, and none of them bring up anything, also when i start mcc in the konsole and go to the Bluetooth in Hardware, i see this:

    [root@localhost Desktop]# Warning: skip "name" field => "USB Bluetooth Device"

    Warning: skip "need_pkgs_offered_by_club" field => "0"

    Warning: skip "sysfs_device" field => "/sys/class/usb_device/usbdev3.2/device"

  5. its not working, i can shake windows around in kde i guess... but i wanna use gnome, i have no idea what to do

    * oh, and i dont even have the option to select AIGLX, XGL is the one selected by default and thats the only one available... i have a nVidia GeForce 3 Ti200 64mb drivers were installed upon install (im using powerpack)

  6. so i go to mcc > hardware > 3d desktop and enable, asks me to logout, fine, i logout, first time i had no idea i had to change the session to "drak3d" so im logging into gnome, thinking wtf. ok second time, i change the session to drak3d, log in, asks me for root password, then the config tool thing comes up again, i click ok, and then it asks me to logout and do ctrl+alt+backspace to restart X i guess. ok so i do that, make drak3d the session, and log in, and it just repeats itself! FFS, and this time, after saying "you need to log out and press ctrl+alt+backspace" it just left me hanging at the mandriva screen, with a cursor, and thats it.

  7. hmm, i found out what the process was called by doing ps aux in terminal, and then i ran it as root, and i get stuff like this...

    File "/usr/lib/python2.4/xml/dom/minidom.py", line 1548, in appendChild

    raise xml.dom.HierarchyRequestErr(

    xml.dom.HierarchyRequestErr: two document elements disallowed

  8. I tried to edit the default firefox link in the start bar, under Internet > Web Browsers... but it wouldn't let me save my settings, then i delete it, so firefox is gone, so I try and re-add it, nope, doesnt work, then i try and add some other random things, nope, wont add them.... why is it doing this?

  9. tried to install powerpack 2007 right now, gets as far as asking me if i want to upgrade or new install.. after clicking upgrade, i get an error screen saying:

    An error occurred

    mouting partition /dev/hdb5 in

    directory /mnt/mnt/win_d failed

    i did mess around with my partitions a while ago, changing the whole of that hard drive from ntfs to linux.. i guess mandriva never saw the changes and thinks that it's still ntfs, how would i change it?

  10. well.. i guess it was true, nautilus is VERY unstable, crashes atleast once everyday, well this time it just kind of "died"... i came back to my computer, unlocked it, and i see a nautilus has quit, so i click restart, and my desktop just never came back, tried logging out, i even restarted my computer..

  11. hey.. just recently switched from kde to gnome.. and damn i really like it... but i noticed that when i receive a message on GAIM, my taskbar wont flash anymore, i did some googleing, but all i found were results for ubuntu and .deb's and some more confusing stuff :P anyone know how to resolve this issue in mandriva?
