  1. http://planetunreal.com/#PQN437016 Great news about UT2004 (it looks sweet! see below), and a bit of hope for the future as well. Thanks Epic. :)
  2. http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?si...=thread&order=0 Some interesting stuff, I think.
  3. Maybe it was built as a module? or is that not possible I can't remember. modprobe joliet or something.
  4. ravage: it's a Mandrake forum, but we really accept any and all distros... Especially in the Games and Other Distros sections. ;) I thought you used Slackware or something like that?

    WordPerfect 8

Not really any need for it except that OOo doesn't support WordPerfect documents, to my knowledge. My sister's school uses it, so she needs it... I have the WordPerfect Office 2000 suite, but since it was made with Winelib and sucks, it doesn't install properly, nor does it run. I've tried all sorts of things, but no dice. WP8 is free though.

    1. Make a backup of /etc/nsswitch.conf 2. Install libc5 3. Restore the old /etc/nsswitch.conf, in place of the new one 4. Install WP8. That's what someone on some mailing list on Google said. What I would do is do a diff on the two different files, to see what has changed. Not sure how Debian handled this issue...
  7. yes, it's really easy when you use makeself  Heh. I was thinking that too.

Okay, since I'm using Debian, this is how I got it going. Mandrake should have similar packages, but the names might vary: Install libc5 which pulls in another package called ldso as a dependency. Now run the installer. It'll work, albeit in text mode. Now, when you try to run wxp, if you get this error: ./xwp: can't load library 'libXt.so.6' install xlib6. Now, when you try to run wxp, if you get this error: ./xwp: can't load library 'libXpm.so.4' install xpm4.7 Presto! Works. Hope my sister can use this. :)

I was wondering if anyone got WP8 working recently. http://home.ubalt.edu/abento/download/Word...dPerfect.tar.gz http://venus.corel.com/nasapps/wp8linuxreg...g/register.html I'm gonna give it a shot soon, since my sister needs it for schoolwork. If it does still work, maybe MUB could host the tarball in case it disappears from the web entirely? Anyhow, I'll report any success I have.
  11. Doesn't PLF have MPlayer RPMs or something? (I assume you use Mandrake). If you want, I could help you get it built probably, but I haven't done it for a long time. We could start a new thread all about MPlayer, if you like. I think the apps that JaseP was talking about includes Cinelerra (more than likely anyhow). Not sure how you would install it on Mandrake (back when I used Mandrake, it was called bcast2000, so maybe they didn't rename it in Mandrake yet?). Anyhow, good luck.
  12. Cinelerra is good too. Cinepaint would be good if it supported common formats.

    Gnome Problems

By the way, Gnome 2.4 came out today, I think... I should try it. Maybe Debian will have it by Christmas. ;)
  14. Yeah, but there isn't any sense repeating anything. :) We can work on new problems, but we're wasting time fixing old ones again. So, I'm waiting for something new. Bring it.

    Gnome Problems

Of course it worked. I wouldn't have told you to do it if it didn't. ;)
  16. We covered USB mice on page 1 of this thread. We covered kernel compilation and installation no page 2 of this thread. We covered problems with the NVidia drivers finding the kernel source on pages 5 and 6 of this thread.
  17. This is offtopic and all, but did you add your user to the audio group? Because if not, then that's most likely your problem. If you have your sound drivers loaded, that is.
  18. bvc: Networking of Debian is handled in the config files in /etc/network/ I use Debian because I wasn't satisfied with Mandrake. When I get dissatisfied with Debian, I'll use SCO OpenLinux.

    Gnome Problems

Open a console and do this: cd mkdir oldgtkstuff/ mv .gtkrc* oldgtkstuff/ Then log out of Gnome and back in. See if it helps. If it does, you can delete the directory oldgtkstuff/. If not, do this in a console: cd mv oldgtkstuff/* ./ rmdir oldgtkstuff/
  21. Okay, I'm guessing it's a problem with the version of zenity you're using. I'm using version 1.4 as packaged by Debian, and you all are using 1.0? Did it work properly for you, bvc?
  22. That's strange. Oh well, glad you figured out how to fix it. :)
  23. So install the NVidia drivers... Tutorial here: http://pgshopping.com/mdkxp/?c=ttrls/nvidianew
