  1. I looked in the system and it comes up as this:

    Vendor: ?Internext Compression Inc

    Description: ?iTVC16 (CX23416) MPEG-2 Encoder

    Media class: ?MULTIMEDIA_VIDEO

    Connection

    Bus: ?PCI

    Bus PCI #: ?0

    PCI device #: ?5

    PCI function #: ?0

    Vendor ID: ?17476

    Device ID: ?22

    Sub vendor ID: ?112

    Sub device ID: ?16393

    Misc

    Module: ?unknown

Should it not say it is manufactured by Hauppauge?

  2. Did you type 'make reload' in the drivers folder? Post the errors here. (forget about compiling a new kernel. It's not neccesary unless you have got a cord with the new tuner.)

ok, here are the errors I get then. :) Any help you can give me is very appreciated!

[root@localhost driver]# depmod -ae; modprobe ivtv

    [root@localhost driver]# exit

    exit

    bash-2.05b$ cat /dev/vi

    video video0 video24 video32

    bash-2.05b$ cat /dev/video0

    cat: /dev/video0: Input/output error

    bash-2.05b$ su

    [root@localhost utils]# modprobe -r ivtv

    [root@localhost utils]# make reload

make: *** No rule to make target `reload'. Stop.

    [root@localhost utils]#

    :wall:

  3. I can't even get the driver to install correctly. I followed the instructions and got it from thacs rpms and everything, but when I add ivtv to my modprobe and cat, there's the error you taked about with the solve of modprobe -r ivtv. The difference here is, once I do that, I get the same error above that it doesn't exist. I thought it might be my kernel, so I recompiled (first time, I tried many times to get it to work right) but when I try to boot into that kernel, it complains that it has no init and that I need to pass something to it in init=, but I don't know what to pass to it. Can you help me at all? I think I have version 2 of the card. I can't get the firmware except through thacs because it cant' fine the temp directory it wants to install in and I have no clue how to fix it....

  4. I have a computer I'm setting up as a mythbox and I need to know how to either get rfbdrake to run at boot as a service/daemon without having to input anything (no keyboard or mouse connected to that pc, or some other vnc server that is compatible with rfbdrake on boot. Is there a way to do this? I don't know the commands. I looked in rfbdrake --help and looked for a man page, but couldn't find where it said instructions for doing that. Does anyone have any idea?

  5. I tried installing it from one of their tarballs to make the serial module appear in my /dev/ folder, but it fails with error 2 many many times. The only thing that ever works is using rpms. For some reason, compiling things almost never works for me...

  6. Ok, I installed and configured lirc. I installed it from the mandrake control center in 10.1 and then went in and set all the configurations up. It should work fine, the problem is, it is not showing an lirc file in /dev/

It is a serial device and it shows up under harddrake, but lirc didn't install its serial module....is there a way to get this to install that part?

  7. I got an ATI TV Wonder Pro recently and worked for the longest time to get it to work. I finally got it to work fine with tweaking with it in mdk 10.1 and updating my bttv. The thing is, it ONLY works in tvtime. I want it to work in all other apps and especially in mythtv, but it doesn't seem to want to. When I load up mythtv, it brings up a solid green and/or black screen when there should be channels there. There is even the channel selector that shows a green or black screen when I preview the channels. When I go into the konsole and run kdetv to try that one, it tells me that there is an error with my audio source, but the audio works fine in tvtime.....

    here's the kdetv error:

kdetv: WARNING: Sourcemanager: No screenwidget set! Cannot scan video plugins!

kdetv: WARNING: OSDManager: No screenwidget set! Cannot scan OSD plugins!

  8. It still fails. Even after replacing the file. I don't understand. It is failing while it is building the nvidia.ko file I think. It's exactly the same as was in my original post...maybe I'm doing something wrong or not expaining it as well as I could...

  9. Ok, I have stopped trying to use the .run file for nvidia and use an extracted file with make install. When I do that after installing 10.1, here's what I get:

I'd love to say that I know exactly what to do but I have no earthly idea. Do I need to download something or install something else? I'm trying to get maya to render and work well and I need the nvidia graphics driveer up and running to be able to do that, but it's not working at all.

The specs of the system are:

    video card: Quadro FX 1000

    Mandrake 10.1

    2 x Intel Xeon 3.06 GHz

Anything you can tell me would be helpful. I also tried the .run file and it failed to build it at the last second also.

I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with this...the tutorial didn't work as it should have.....and I'd love to use the windows drivers, but they won't work for linux, right? Should I just go to the ATI site and download their windows drivers or use the windows drivers on the cd if I know how to recompile or convert or something to make them work in linux? I didn't think they would do that....

  11. :help:

I scoured to try to find something with this tv card. Here is what hard drake says about it:

    Vendor: ‎Hauppauge

    Bus: ‎PCI

    Bus identification: ‎14f1:8800:1002:f8

    Location on the bus: ‎4:2:0

Description: ‎WinTV PCI card (88x chip based)

    Module: ‎cx8800

    Media class: ‎MULTIMEDIA_VIDEO

I don't know where to go to get the driver for it as I guess that's what I need? Every time I run a tv app it says that it can't find my video0 device. It's an ATI TV Wonder Pro card and is supposed to work fine in linux but I can't find anywhere that actually shows it....Does anyone with more experience know this? Sorry, I'm still learning about linux stuff. Wonderful OS. Sooo much better than windoze. :D

  12. Ok, I am trying to use the linux kernel-p3-smp-64GB-2.6.3.7 but I can't find an nvidia kernel for it anywhere! I've done google searches, gone to the nvidia web site, gone to rmp.pbone.net and anywhere else I could find, but I can't find the kernel I need anywhere! Does it just not exist? Is there a more updated linux kernel I should install and then use a more updated nvidia kernel for that, too? Please help!

  13. Hey, I just bought a pny nvidia geforce 5700 Media Center card that is supposed to let me watch tv, listen to the radio, and watch movies and the like. It even comes with a remote. The remote I can live without, but I got it for the fact that it's equal is the geforce quadro fx 1000 and it has tv tuner capabilities. Is there a way to make the tv tuner work in mandrake? Every time I try to install the tv tuner card functionality in the mandrake control center, it just says "scanning for channels" and hangs there for hours on end. It does absolutely nothing that I can tell. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to what I could do to fix this?

  14. I tried what you said and installed several cyrillic fontsets and other things on there and tried as hard as I can to get it all to work with me, but still no luck. I can set my localization settings to russia and then all text displays in russian, but still not those files. Is there some problem with them or something? I completely don't understand what the problem is if I have all the necessary files installed and have gone through all the menus and things. Is it the X server? How could I check that to make sure that can display them? Could it be koi-8 or some other encoding that is russian? I installed fontsets for that just in case and it didn't help at all either...

  15. Ok, I have files in more than one language, mainly mp3 files. The japanese ones display ok and the english ones display ok, but not the russian ones! I had everything sorted in windows by the names of the files and things and it displayed perfectly, now, when I rip my Linda cd or download it even, I can't do that...what's the reason? How can I get Russian characters to display in Konqueror, xmms, and most of the other programs that will be displaying them? I installed all the necessary language packs, and when the problem arose, I went back in and installed all the other ones, so I have all the language files I should ever need and then I went in and added Russian under my localization settings, but still no luck. Anyone know what I'm supposed to do?

  16. Nevermind, I got it to work. I had to install the graphics libraries that came with mandrake on a reinstall "upgrade" of mandrake and then go back in an reinstall the new drivers and it all works fine now and looks amazing!

  17. Ok, I followed these instructions:

After downloading, you go to terminal, as root, and you type init 3(make sure everything important is saved). this will shutdown the x server, and will give you a console, you log in as root again, navigate to your download folder, and type:

    CODE

    sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6111-pkg1.run

    9. type vim /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 (enter)

    10. type i (this is for insert mode so you can isert the proper driver line)

    11. use your arrow keys & scroll to the section where it says Section "Module". under that, make sure there's a line that says Load "glx" # 3d layer . if there isn't, add it as the last line, then hit esc .

    12. if it says either or both of the following under the "Module" section (Load "DRI" Load "Glcore"), remove them by typing i & using the arrow keys to navigate to them & the space or backspace bar(s) to remove them. hit esc .

    13. type i & use your arrow keys to navigate to where it says Section "Device". navigate to where it says Driver "nv" or Driver "vesa" & make it read Driver "nvidia" .........that's Driver(space)(quotes)nvidia(quotes)

and when I did all that, now my nvidia driver works wonderfully, but everything else randomly crashes! When I close a program, it crashes on close. When anything runs, instead of closing nicely, it is detected as a crash! What do I need to do to fix it? I'd reinstall everything if I didn't already know that would screw me over for graphics again. I need to be able to run with the graphics that I have yet keep the programs running. What could be causing everything to crash so much?

  18. I don't know if this will help with your booting problems but it's worth a try:

    http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php?page=Usi...ve+volume+state

    Good luck :)

no, it's not that alsa is muting things (that is part of it, but not the major concern), it is that alsa is not loading at all...is there any way I can FORCE alsa to load at start? Is there a command I can enter in some script to force it to? What about getting sound to work in KDE? It just doesn't work at all....

  19. Thanks, but it still didn't work. It's very frustrating, too. I have alsa checked to run at startup, yet it never runs at startup. I have to go in and start it up manually every single time I reboot. It's very frustrating. Any ideas what could be causing this?

[copy of preceding post removed by spinynorman - please use 'add reply' button]

  20. Ok. I went through and searched for a while but didn't find the answer I'm needing. I have a sound blaster audigy 2 card and it must use the alsa driver.

It sets alsa as loading on boot, but alsa never starts when it is booting and my volumes are never set, so every time I turn my computer on, I have to go log-in as root and type alsa start in a terminal. Even when I do that, noatun and XMMS run perfectly, but nothing else has sound. No KDE application can use it even though I have ALSA set as my sound driver. When I log-in, there is no sound, when running kopete, there is no sound. I have absolutely no idea what could be wrong... then again, I am a relative Linux newbie. Can anyone help me?
