Is there a reliable procedure available that will make ptune-ui work with Mandriva 2005? Looks like you were VERY lucky! I can't make that combination work (possibly because we're using different tuners, I'm using a phillips!) Hopefully more help from devries will be forthcomming. This is beyond me.

Which perl video-ivtv module from thac's did you use? I only found one in the 10.1 directory, nothing under Mandriva 2005, is the one in the 10.1 directory the one you used? I've tried it and it didn't work for me.

You need to install both the Perl Video-Frequencies & Perl Video-ivtv rpms from the distribution, this however will not solve the problem, see the following entry below. you need to load the perl Video-Frequencies rpm from the dittribution (as well as Perl Video-ivtv), this however will not solve the problem! It appears that ptune-ui.pl is not compatable with perl 5.8.6, -- the version does not match what is in 5.8.6's dynaloader file and consequently will not compile. Different ptune-ui's from various ivtv tar's give the same results. Could you explain how you got around this?

O.K. for those of you who aren't GURU's (like me!) -- dkms-ivtv is a .rpm included in the 2005 tree. Installing dkms & dkms-ivtv and a couple of other dependencies works fine, but you still can't load the dkms-ivtv module. You get a module not found error. Hopefully adanw will respond with a little more detailed explanation.

That doesn't get it either. I don't understand what dkms-ivtv should accomplish, dkms is not a legal command.

The ivtv module included with 2005 is non functional and blows off when you try to load it. Anyone know a soultion to this problem, I/E where can I get a usable ivtv module?

I assume you're using the CD you created from boot.iso. 1 - ftp server 2 - DHCP (or static and enter you're I.P.) 3 - tab through everything else 4 - select official i586 from the download choices 5 - select the mirror you want to use 6 - make sure to change 10.1 to 10.2 7 - this works for me, hope it works for you.

I'm not using a NTFS partition, I've tried both FAT32 & ext2 -- neither work. I'm doing as adamw suggested, as I'm typing this reply, and so far its working -- ungodly slow with a 1meg broadaband connection! I'm about halfway there and have had 5 different packages that blew off during their install. Probably won't work when I try to boot it.

The boot.iso works fine, it just is not capable of installing from the .rpm's it apparantly will only install from an .iso. This is starting to look like Mandrake is intentionally making it next to impossible for people to install from the mirrors, so that they will be forced to join their club -- kinda sick!! I too have been using Mandrake virtually since their inception, but looks like its time to change distributions. Hey willard 1975, could you let loose with a little more information as to how to do a network install from my local LAN, I'm stuck behind a commercial ISP's firewall and have 4 box's on a private LAN with I.P.'s in the 192.168.xxx.xxx range. Could I actually installl by putting all these directories & .rpm's on another box? Thanks for any ideas.

Neither the boot iso cd nor the boot floppy for installing from a hard drive directory will install. It dies looking for something in /install/stage2/ and lists the 4 files in the stage2 directory. It appears its looking for an .iso file. Need an explaination as to how to install 2005 when the directories and .rpm's have been downloaded from a mirror. I spent 2 days downloading all this stuff and it appears there's no way to install it. Thanks for any solutions. Its gotta be something I'm doing wrong!

Has anybody got a procedure or how-to on how to make mysql work with MDK 10.1, there's a lot of questions with solutions that don't work! Does anybody have a solution that does work?

Well, It definatly doesn't work on the 2.6.3-7mdk kernel. I created a new installation on a different partition and went through the procedure and when I got to modprobe lirc_i2c it gave the same "fatel error , can't find module"error then locks up the system! Turns out the reason it can't find the module is because /lib/modules/2.6.3-7mdk is damaged and can't be accessed. It has to be re-created again before I can make a successful re-boot and have the normal modules installed. I've done this so many times I now keep a backup of /lib/modules/2.6.3-7mdk. I can insmod lirc_dev, but when I insmod lirc_i2c it locks the system. Guess I'll try installing that 2.6.4-1.tmb.8mdk kernel and see what happens. thanks again for the help. *********************************************************************

devries, I did like you said and found other lirc stuff , deleted it all and recompiled LIRC, all went well, but when I "modprobe lirc_i2c" it throws the error:FATAL: Module lirc_i2c not found. And I'm doing this from the directory the new lirc_i2c module that I compiled is located in! Where is this new lirc_i2c module supposed to be located? It installed lirc_i2c & lirc_dev in /lib/modules/2.6.3-7mdk/misc not /kernel/3rdparty, like before. And thanks again

Thanks for the advice, I'm trying your suggestions now. I'm using the latest CVS version of mplayer and yes, it appears they corrected the problem as it compiled without errors and runs fine, I never could get MPlayer-1.0pre5 to compile, I didn't know about your fix. thanks again for your help.

devries, I would LOVE to have fun with my remote, I've been trying for over a month now to make it work. I've tried you're procedure and still get the "could not connect to socket" & "Connection refused" messages when bringing up mplayer. The only difference being that I'm using the 2.6.3-7mdk kernel that came with Mandrake 10 Official. Do I have to change kernels? irw works fine with the remote, however irkick doesn't work, it just puts an icon with a red x over it in the taskbar. Thanks for any advice!
