    kpresenter

These days, I have been making a slide presentation using kpresenter. Then it dawned on me, I do not know how to put it on a cd to show slides in front of a large group!! :woops: I should of learned that first. Obviously I can burn my .kpr file to a cd, but how do I show the slides? What do I have to do to use it in other programs or machines besides a linux based computer? I need to show these slides to various groups in various places, and I will not have a computer with me. Therefore, I will have to use whatever computer or machine that is available. Thanks.
  4. I continue having problems. Even this morning it blocked while loading CUPS, so I had to reset the computer. Any idea as to what I might try, to see if I could resolve the problem. I would be happy just to have a guess. If I end up messing up everything while trying, I'll just do another clean install. Thanks.
  5. Thanks for the reply. I'm not very good with computers (I'm a Keeg - opposite of Geek!), so I need to admit that I do not know what filesystem I run. I've added all patches. What I do is update with MCC frequently. I did a clean install with 10.1 OE. I have a new computer - AMD Athlon64 3000. I have 2 hard drives, 80 GB and 20 GB. Linux is on the 80 and WXP on the 20. I also have /backup on the 20 GB. There is a Radeon 9200 graphics card, with 128 mb of memory. There is over 700 mb of memory. There is a analog video capture card, a cd burner and a dvd drive.
  6. Oh, something just came to mind. Recently, I loaded a lot of programs for grafical editing, trying to find one I like (and am able to understand, so I can use it ). The problem with checking the root file system I have had from the beginning, but the other problems only recently. Therefore there might be a connection between these latest loads the the problems. Kieth
  7. Since I loaded Mandrake 10.1, I have always had problems with the occasional "Checking root fille system". It wants to check the root system every 4 or 5 times that I turn on my computer. This was not on the other Mandrake distributions. In fact, it doesn't work. A message comes up say that it will check the system on the next boot. Then on the next boot, it just sits there, never checking the root system. I've let it set for a loooong time, but - nothing. The only thing to do is to re-set the computor. I would like to get rid of this "option" totally, or make it actually check the root file system. Now, for about a week, I'm having trouble with the CUPS system. The normal message, "Starting CUPS printing system" comes up, but CUPS never loads. It just sits there, doing nothing. Once again, the only thing to do is to re-set the computer. In both of the above cases, after I re-set the computer, while re-booting, the message "Your system seems to have shut down uncleanly. Pres Y within 5 seconds to force file system integrity". I do that, and everything loads up. /dev/capi20 and /dev/isdn/capi20 (a link) is also not loading. I do not know its purpose, but the only thing I found to do is to change it's permissions from root to kieth, and it will normally load on the next boot. But the next time I turn my computer on, it will not load up again. About a month ago, I bought a Canon LIDE 20 scanner, which works great with linux. When it is recognized when I boot, an icon appears on the desktop. Now, it often isn't recognized. Could the above problems be related to a particular problem? Any ideas on how to resolve them? Thanks, Kieth
  8. In Settings and Behavior, the CD-ROM device is set to /dev/cdrom. Below it, there is a box to allow direct digital playback, but it is not "highlighted". Therefore, I cannot check. What should I do to correct it?
  9. I once again went into MCC to try and resolve my sound problem. I went into trouble shooting, and it said to give several commands in a terminal to try and resolve any problems. I did that, but of course it doesn't mean a thing to me. Therefore, I am listing what I put in the terminal in the hopes that someone would be able to understand them and find the problem I'm having. 12. Yes, there is a channel named 'capture', and it is maxed. In fact, it will not even allow me to lower it's volumn. Another problem, which if it has nothing to do with my sound, I will have to start another thread. When I boot up, after checking the usb connections, it says it's going to check the root file system after the next mount. Then when I do re-boot, and it does check the root file system, it never finishes. That is, it stays right there. I wait and wait, then finally re-boot. Could there be a broken thread or something in the root file system that is causing the problem? I do not notice any other problems while running Mandrake. All my programs seem to work OK. Could the problem be resolved if I disable alsa and use another sound setup (esound?)? If so, how would I do it. I know I can disable alsa in MCC, but how would I get another sound setup working. Maybe I could just try it and see what happens. Thanks.
  13. I had already checked the volumn control, but just to make sure, I did it again. No problems there. Notning muted, and volumns on max. If you can come with any more ideas, I would appreciate it. Kieth
  14. I noticed another defect. When I was using 10.0, while recording to Audacity, I could also hear it on my computer. Now, with 10.1 (on a new computer), I can't hear it while recording. After it is recorded, I can push play, and I hear it fine. Also, if I remember correctly, alsa wasn't working with 10.0. Kieth
  15. I'm glad to hear that my card is installed supported and that the module is installed correctly. What is my sound setup? I don't know. Whatever Mandrake installed, I use! In the Mandrake Control Center (System - services), it shows alsa running. I haven't noticed other sound problems. The sound with games work OK. I have been recording from a cassette tape to the computer using Audacity, and I can hear it just fine. Kieth edit: I checked to see if I had everything downloaded, and here is the result. # urpmi kmix Everything already installed # urpmi alsa Everything already installed
  16. I have tried to work with kmix, still no sound from my music cd. I also downloaded lots, in the hopes of getting sound from my VCR. Still no luck. Here are the files you asked for. Hopefully they mean somethng to you, as they mean nothing to me. 17. Yes, I have a video capture card, which is: Vendor: ‎Philips Semiconductors Description: ‎SAA7135HL Multi Media Capture Device It is recognised with Mandrake. In fact, I can see the images with XawTV. There just isn't any sound. For playing music CDs, I tried using various programs. At this moment, I am trying again with KsCD. It shows that it is playing, showing also the author and title of the song, but there just isn't any sound. Ok, now I am trying with Totem, and yes there is sound. B) :woops: I guess I didn't try it earlier. Any ideas, though, on getting KsCD, my VCR and XawTV working correctly? Thanks, Kieth
  18. Others have tried. http://mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtop...hl=multisession
  19. I don't believe it's possible to continue a multisession from Nero to K3b, or visa versa.
  20. I am not able to play a music cd on my dvd. Is this related to the fact that rawdevices is not working? I also have a VCR attached to my computer. I can see the images, but there is no sound. Any ideas as to the problem? Thanks

I think you're right. I've messed around with KDE and Gnome, and there is no change. Kieth

  23. I just finished downing loading the iso image files for 10.1. How do I check the files to see if they are OK, before I burn them? Also, is there any special thing I have to do to burn them? Thanks, Kieth
  24. I was trying to resolve another problem caused because I updated my programs, and ended up creating a lot of other problems, to the point that I could not even log in. Therefore I ended up doing a clean install. Now everything is obviously fine. Now I need to "tweek" my programs to get them where I like them. I appreciate the help, even though I goofed it all up. Kieth
  25. Well, I did my urpmi updates. It wanted to remove everything that had to do with kde. After much frustration and problems I said yes. That created more problems, so I ended up doing a clean install. At least now I can do everyting. I believe the conflicts came from the kde files I updated. All the files/programs I downloaded were off the easyurpmi download sites. How would I know if any are non-official? I would definately like to avoid the problems again! Also, I would still like to update my programs, but now I'm afraid to do it. Is there any "sure" way of doing it? Would the best way be to download the 10.1 official iso images and do another clean install? Thanks for the help, even though I ended up messing up everything. Kieth
