When I boot into Mandrake 10, it does not boot all the way into KDE as it used to. Instead, I get a blue background for 3 quadrants of the monitor and the bottom right quadrant is a command prompt. I am able to enter commands into the command prompt, but I am unable to start KDE from here.
I was even able to run Unreal Tournament from this command prompt and it worked fine, so I don't think it is a fundamental problem with my graphics card or monitor, etc.
Has anyone seen this issue and/or have any advice for its resolution?
thanks in advance!!

Now that I got my NVIDIA GeForce 4 working, I was thinking about upgrading :D . I like play games such as Unreal Tournament, etc. I am wondering what are the best graphics cards for gaming on Linux. I am running Mandrake 10.

After I installed the NVIDIA driver from nvidia.com, it worked great. Thanks!!

KDE was automatically starting during boot, but after I installed the NVIDIA driver, it now boots the text prompt. So I have to login and then run KDE. How can I configure Mandrake 10 to automatically log me in and run KDE on the boot?
thanks!!

I am using Mandrake 10, and I have not installed any drivers manually other than whatever was installed during installation of the OS. When I open up the Mandrake Control Center, it correctly identifies my card as a "NV17 GeForce4 MX 420". Do I need to install some other driver or something else?
thanks!

Hi,
I get errors when running several games under Linux. I can run many of the simple games such as Frozen Bubble and LBreakOut, but I want to run some of the more 3d ones. Here is the problem I am getting (most recently, when running "BZFlag").
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0"
Any ideas?
thanks,
Max

Thanks for the info. I was hoping to find some free software that could do it. I will give this post a little more time to see if there are other answers. If not, I will have to weight the cost of Parition Magic against reinstalling Linux.
I guess my question is, if I reinstall Mandrake 10 and resize the partitions, will the reinstall overwrite my existing applications and data?

I recently installed Mandrake 10 beside an XP installation to play around with it and get used to it. I now realize that I like it much better than XP and I would like to shrink the NTFS partition to make room for more space in Mandrake. What is the best tool to use for this? I tried parted, but it doesn't support NTFS. I originally shrank the partition using the Mandrake install, but I don't want to have to re-install and wipe out my applications and data.
thanks!

Hi,
I'm in the market for a laptop that I would like to run solely Mandrake 10. I have typically bought computers from Dell in the past, but I had a problem with my current Dell and Linux where the SDLive! card was not supported. Plus, I'm not sure if I can buy a Dell with no OS preinstalled.
I am looking for a new laptop, and not one from a Mom-and-pop type place that would use cheap parts (I've had a bad experience in the past with that).
Any recommendations on where to find a quality laptop for Mandrake 10?
thanks!

I recently installed Mandrake 10, and I am interested in running apt-get to install software and dependencies. Is it possible to run apt-get on Mandrake 10? If so, how can I install it? Has anyone had a positive or negative experience with this?
thanks,
Max

I ran this and my settings seemed correct. Then, I clicked "Test" and I saw the colored background fine. However, when I logout and reboot, I still get the same problem.
