Try to manually select the driver - emu10k1.
I believe you can either do it in the Control Center or by typing drakesound at the command prompt.
Thanks all of you for the suggestions, but this one worked right away :)

In mandrake 9.1 everything but my soundcard is running now.
When I play a wave, I can 'see' it playing in the media-player, but it makes no sound at all!
I just runned sndconfig from root and it detected my SB Live! correctly.
Then it said: "PCI Creative Labs | SB Live! currently not supported."
I am surprised, because it is a well known card :o
Is there a way to get it working?

I downloaded 10 but during install it hanged. After rebooting (only option) I tried again with same result. Booting again and choosed 'upgrade' this time.
Now it reported an error in KDEArtwork but was able to finish the installation.
I 've read about at least 4 people who reported the same error overhere, so I assume something went wrong when Mandrake made that image...
I did not trust the installation anymore and decided to use Mandrake 9.1.
-
It is not about burning the CD; the image itself is the problem. I have read about at least four others with the same problem. I simply think they made a mistake with making the image.
I got that problem too and I worked around it by installing it until the moment it hangs. Than I start over, but choose upgrade. This time it goes pass the point where it hanged the last time, but it reports an error in the file 'kdeartwork-3.2mdk.i586' . You can resume installing after that, although you miss that file.
There was a moment I thought I fixed it by uninstalling my USB-mouse, but I was forgotten that I did the upgrade rather than the install. In the upgrade it always will finish the install (although with error-message about the missng file).
-
Do you use a USB mouse? With full install that caused problems hanging the install and when I started over I choosed upgrade and it generated the same error you got. Problem was solved after using a normal mouse.
-
No need to re-download CD 2:
I just read in another topic that freezing during install is caused if you have an USB-mouse. I have an USB-mouse, causing the problem.

I just read in another topic that freezing during install is caused if you have an USB-mouse, so try again with another mouse.
I have an USB-mouse as well, causing the problem.
-
I have the same, see my topic.
I got it installed by running upgrade rather than install when trying again.
Still it gives an error in KDEartwork-3.2MDK.i586, but you can go on installing after it.
Did you read my topic about it?

Thanks for your help :)
I did not know how to run md5run-checksum program, because at that moment I did not have linux running. So I skipped that step. I am still a beginner at linux (some years ago I used suse-linux 6.0 for a few weeks, but that is not enough to call myself experienced, very much not! :D ) and I need to learn about everything, from the commands to the directory structure. So if I wanted to run the checksum now I don't know how to do that ....
So for that reason I will download CD 2 again.
My ADSL problem still not solved and after reading some topics about it, I think I cannot get it right by just following the linux-installer. I need the SpeedTouch-USB-howto, is that right?
-
Problem somehow solved
I decided to re-install it on the current partition and it now finished installation.
Only thing is the errormessage "error in KDEArtwork-3.2mdk.i586"
Sofar I can't run speedtouch-ADSL because of missing alcaudsl.sys.
It copied it from my windows but now it asks for mgmt.o, so I am still trying to solve that problem.

Okay, maybe this is interesting info:
The system hangs when displaying this two sentences:
Installing package aspell-en
English file for aspell
Does that help?

Please... nobody? I am still stuck :o Any suggestion may help me...

I tried to install the download version of Mandrake 10.0, but in the middle of installing the programs it hanged.
During the partition process I selected an empty partition of 20 GB large.
Then I let the installer do automatic partitioning in that 20 gb partition.
The system hanged just after the CD#2 was asked (when installing the programs). It just did copying something and than the CD-drive stopped and the system hanged.
Maybe the following message has something to do with the problem:
During install it said: "the download version does not include some modems like certain ADSL and RTC. Also it may not work with certain NVidia and ATI-video cards."
I have a geforce ti 4200 video card, using NVidia drivers AND I have an ADSL modem: speedtouch USB modem, to be precise.
Maybe that caused the crash?
To inform you guys about my system, below is a partional dump of DX-diag.
Hope you can help me

Okay, very clear! I am about to start burning the ISO's now. Never worked with Mandrake before and if all my questions are answered this clear, I am sure I will not have too many problems :)
-
Ah like SFV-checker in windows? Checksumming the files?
Thank you.

Hi,
As a newcomer for Mandrake (used Suse 6.0 years ago for a short period) I decided to download the three ISO's for this distrbution:
But I am puzzled about a fourth file there was to download:
Mandrake10.0-official-download.md5.asc
What am I supposed to do with this file
Which monitor to install in version 10?

Posted
I just installed Mandrake 10.0 but the monitor I have is not in the list.
I have a Samsung Syncmaster 151s LCD monitor.
There are other Syncmasters to choose, but I don't know which one is compatible with mine.
Any idea's?
