  1. I'm using Mandriva 2006 and installed the rpm from http://www.mde.djura.org/. I was aware that it wasn't an official package but I didn't think it was experimental.

Isnt experimental inthe way you say it, the problem is that kde nows needs to be fixed due to this new cups, anyway to fix this edit the file /etc/cups/cupsd.conf and replace the line (or put it as a comment):

    Listen /var/run/cups/cups.sock

    with the line:

    Listen localhost

Then logout and voila, you have cups working again :)

  2. I think thac already uploaded a fixed kdemultimedia, since that one was build against polypaudio-0.8.1 but isnt possible to use this new polypaudio since there are too many packages based on polypaudio-0.7.

Im also here to announce that are being uploaded about of 150 Mb of new software that goes from new avahi, dbus, hal, drakxtooks, rpm, etc, to new qt3 and new kernel-2.6.16

I hope all can enjoy it :)

  3. I isnsall mde with urpmi --auto-select

    KDE 3.5.2 well !

But printing is very slowly, the printer starts at 60sec

File open at gimp very slowly.

USB Stick dont work, error message /dev/sde1 not in fstab

Im aware of it, this caused by hal.

In new hal i forgot to obsolet libhal0, so the correct hal will imply lot of new packages like new firefox, new gnome, screem, nvu, gnomemeeting, etc, and that will give much work, so unless help me on this i think i will remove all new packages hal dependant.

  4. Here you can find all kind of improved packages, like from kde-3.5.2, qt3, xorg-x11-6.9.0, all kind of multimedia packages like amarok, all kind of networking packages like dbus, avahi, firefox to brwose webpages, to chat you have KVirc, and also a new set of mandriva packages like hal, shorewall, firefox, etc.

This is available at the usual place http://www.mde.djura.org

You can directly access the rpms through:

    for 32 bits -> http://www.mde.djura.org/2006.0/RPMS/

    for 64 bits -> http://www.mde.djura.org/2006.0_64/RPMS/

Please dont forget to first read intructions before doing anything.

  5. I know it shouldn't make a difference with urpmi if you set 2006.0/RPMS or 2006.0/RPMS/ but get 404 erros none the less if set ~/2006.0/RPMS/ but not with ~/2006.0/RPMS - maybe older version of urpmi, since updated urpmi doesn't seem to have that problem.

    Makes no difference.

Thank you again for all your time and effort with your advise and repository - I'm now on a pure MDE install of 3.5.2 and already noticing a difference between SoS and MDE (MDE>SoS). Nothing against SoS, but I'm personally liking what you and Ze have done better.

    I'm Zé.

Also, thank you for your patience with me. Yes, I'm a win convertee since 12/25/2005. Now 100% winblows-free :lol2:

    Your welcome.

  6. You cant add a media inside other media, or you first add a media and then updated it, or before doing again urpmi.addmedia remove the media with urpmi.remove.

However i have been seeing some problems regarding update media and this is due to a urpmi bug thats why we do advise smart, so when having problems when updating media, remove media and readd it.

In fact makes no difference if you set ~/2006.0/RPMS or ~/2006.0/RPMS/ since urpmi is recursive.

I have been seeing a crescent number of newbies (this is good since people start realize the shi* that windowzzz is) and i see that there a certain number of dificulties about upgrading kde, so ill see if i get some time to write a howto or intro about it.

    regards,

  7. Could it be possible that he has missed the other upgrade or mixed versions?

I don't know where he got the error from but i know where i got mine from it was the cooker..

That's all i was trying to say..

I am not saying MDE of SoS is broken but i do know for a fact with my upgrade from the cooker this error did occur..

Sorry if you think i was agreeing your version is broken in any way..

    MDE of SoS???

Please this is too rude, SoS doesnt simply pass from cooker rpms build for Mandriva 2006.0, MDE rpms are good packages that are much more improved, with many fixes, with all correct dependencies, without packages that make no sense and so on, thats why you still get cooker packages without keyboard working...

Please do not confuse them since MDE have nothing to do with the rest, you can check www.mde.djura.org

I know i got a litle abset but dont take it personally :)

    kind regards,

  8. MDE

It may not be your files that are broken but i am using the Devel version from Mandriva and since yesterdays upgrade unless i went through a manual start of all the services i also had a problem with the keyboard.(Did an upgrade just before again to see if the fixed it today.)

I just used his fix and i fixed the problem i had also..

So i am not sure where the problem has come from but adding the line

    ServerVTs=-7

worked for me, I was about to post the question when i read this comment and though it could be related.

What was really weird is that the tty2 console ctrl-alt f2 was always restarting and the kernel was complaining about the X accesses the keyboard for some reason.

    But now it works thanks..

The log on screen would work but once inside KDE i had no keyboard functionality.

Woudl care care to go back and i see what i have posted about that? would are to read the last post in wich i also said that this is fixed since kde-3.4.2 (refering to MDE kde packages of course), would you care to explain what MDE files have to do with mandriva files cooker or not?

  9. I've noticed that MDE has updated their RPMS to include some patched base KDE 3.5.2 files and SoS has also released his 3.5.2 files. Here's what I did to get it ot work:

You have noted what? from where? who? how? give me break...

    [/solution=on]

    rpm -e --nodeps kdebase-kdm

    urpmi.addmedia SoS http://seerofsouls.com/mandriva/KDE-3.5.2 with hdlist.cz

    urpmi.removemedia MDE

    urpmi kdebase-kdm (from SoS)

    urpmi.addmedia MDE http://www.mde.djura.org/2006.0/RPMS/ with hdlist.cz

    urpmi kdebase-kdm (from MDE)

    vi /etc/kde/kdm/kdmrc

insert key to add under [general] section: ServerVTs=-7

esc key to get to commands

    :w to write the file

    :q to quit vi

    init 6 to reboot.

    [/solution=off]

This was not the most eloquent method - but it worked. I had to manualy edit the kdmrc file because from what I can tell, both resources did not have the line for ServerVts so my keyboard input wouldn't go into the KDM login screen.

I'm now up and running in KDE-3.5.2 but I'm patching other issues I caused in getting to this point. Thanks again for all the help.

And again you know nothing, since kdmrc file from Mde has been fixed since 3.4.2, and only with you is that appears this crazy thing, i imagine what you hae done to get that, like for example mixing MDE files to others, this way you only get system breaked and you only not get anymore our support since we do advise about this.

Take a good look to MDE kdmrc file and see if it doesnt have exactly what you say you have had.

To put posts like these please dont, since you only teach newbies to get in troubles.

  10. You can install kde-3.5.2 in mandriva 2006 and upgrade from kde-3.4.2 with rpmdrake or urpmi or the tool we advise that is smart

However we do advise to first uninstall kde-3.4.2 and then install kde-3.5.2, this because when upgrading from 3.4.2 many times happens that appears some doubled menus but this is explained in our webpage.

  11. Well I tried but I ran into a big problem as MDE KDE 3.5.2 refused to install (at this point I had already removed kde 351!) as it depended on files older than the installed ones (ie. from cooker). After I got this fixed and X and kde up and running again, I ran into more trouble because there were some mde xorg upgrades left. Because now cooker refused to update some program because they had depencies of which newer versions were already installed .

When happens kde appears dependeding on files older than the installed ones that i assure you is due to the urpmi repo is not well updated, and that can happen when hdlist is generated when files are being uploaded, so wait more 15 minutes for hdlist be regenerated or simply download rpms to hd and create a local upmi media.

  12. I really dont have a clue of what you did to put that happening, still can be a good idea to do rpm -Uvh --force kdebase-kdm since this way you will replace the existant kdmrc config file, when doing with urpmi it follows the specifications and for config rules, the policy is to not replace them and create a new one *.rpmnew.

However you can just enter /etc/kde/kdm and erase kdmrc and just do urpmi kdebase-kdm

Well you are free to use whatever distro you want.

  13. I tried the kde and kde devel channel, nothing but I did get an answer from the dutch kde channel :)

Under [General] in /etc/kde3/kdm/kdmrc add the line:

    ServerVTs=-7

    :D

This kind of problems are resolved since kde-3.4.2 MDE and in mandriva cooker they are still fighting for a solution, but this is only one of the severall problems that happens in mandriva and that in MDE are resolved and other things improved, so i dont really get why you insist in using kde from mandriva (being cooker or not).

  14. Ok, MCC>boot>autologin definately not the place. MCC>system>display manager only lets you pick which DM to use (KDM, GDM, XDM) but not configure it. Trying the genkdmconf --no-old and rebooting - BRB :wall:

Also, I manually removed the kdebase-kdm with rpm -e --nodeps kdebase-kdm and then re-added it with urpmi kdebase-kdm which did use the MDE repository. Again, trying to reboot now.

This seams to be the kind os post to be in MDE topic, anyway i still havent understand whats your problem, you want to login in kde and you dont have that option in kdm? or you want to use the kdm login instead using the mde default?
