  7. Install MDE kde rpms and youll not have this kind of probs. In mandriva a kde developer started mixing some mimetypes instead add the missing ones.
  8. The first reading i recommend you to have is this one -> http://www.rpm.org/max-rpm-snapshot/ the other link that Dexter11 refered -> http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Development/Packaging can be more specific for Mandriva like for example rpmlint is mandriva specific. However for a faster learning you can start downloading, install the rpm build tree and then open the *.spec files, then the doubts you have ask me in irc (freenode servers) in channel #MDE I also was a newbie and at that time was thac that started teaching me
  9. In reply to Ian's posts, seams that in fact i missunderstood what you refered, my apologies :) I didnt know that was you who wanted to help but you didnt said anything more about it, if i remember correctly i told you to start with opening cooker rpms and that i would help from there, since isnt easy to learn all about packaging and from that point you didnt said gaved any answer. Now in answer to dexter11 post, i already commited some of the packages that iexist in mde to mandriva, and i was in the process to start packaging officially to mandriva, but the person in question stopped the process and lately i also asked Adam about it but he said he was to busy so i stopped asking and continued with MDE. To refer that whats done in MDE is more updated that cooker, cant be compared to whats done in mandriva backports.
  10. I dont get why your always against whats done in MDE. As you might know i use Mandriva and in my opinion Mandriva its the best distro out there, and in MDE we try even put it better.
  11. We do not follow mandriva packaging?! Well we follow mandriva packaging policy even more that many official mandriva packagers, i have already refered this to one of the main mdv developers... Now explaining better whats MDE, our main policy is to have bleeding edge software, and we try to optimize, fix bugs, fix packaging errors, also create packages that dont exist in Mandriva and are needed or at least libraries that are optional and that can improve applications. For example regarding kde, until kde-4.0.0 we build kde differently so that we can have binaries that are faster ad can take the most of a machine, we also add MDE own beautification, like wallpapers, kdm theme, colors, kicker sets, added missing mimetypes and not inventing since now mandriva users are complaining about ark and .bz2 files badly behaviour when using kde mdv, fix xinerama, kcmsamba, also konqueror was very much improved regarding using flash, also the konqueror search bar gives the user suggestions, the main toolbar is much better arranged, but this are small examples since there are many fixes/patches regarding all kde aspects. Now in kde-4.0.0 still didnt had the time to study it so that i can improve it regarding optimization, but MDE kde-4.0.0 its correctly packaged, since main packages dont call devel packages like wrongly happens with the mandriva kde4 packages, also dont create wrong icons cache files like if it was running kde3, mdv its using desktop-file-utils binaries to load icons cache for kde4 and the existant macros only apply to the icons that exist in the main system directory i.e. /usr and since kde4 is installed in /opt/kde it creates wrong cache files. When entering MDE repository you can see that there isnt just kde but a wide variaty of packages for both architectures, a very recent openoffice, virtualbox, amsn, kvirc, cups, dbus, hal, xine, mplayer, ndiswrapper, amarok, k3b, recent drivers for wifi, graphics and webcams, etc. Hope i could clarify whats mde :)
  12. KDE 4 now available in MDE for both arches! Available at the usual place http://www.mde.djura.org You can directly access the 2008.0 rpms through: for 32 bits -> http://www.mde.djura.org/index2008.0.html for 64 bits -> http://www.mde.djura.org/index2008.0_64.html have fun,
  13. New openoffice.org-2.4.0.6-0.svn12156.1mde Available at the usual place http://www.mde.djura.org for both arches have fun, ;) [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  14. About the problem you had about missing libjpeg only mean that you dont have mandriva main repository added to your urpmi database. As posted in http://www.mde.djura.org/index2008.0.html: The repositories main, contrib, plf-free and plf-nonfree have frequently needed rpms, so if you intend to use urpmi or rpmdrake dont forget to add them.
  15. I also did checked that but it will not work, maybe someone should report this to ImageMagick developers.
  16. Yes i see the problem but thats a convert problem, but you could simply try speaking with convert author about this bug, this isnt a mandriva bug.
  17. To search what rpm has a certain file you do urpmf: in this case: urpmf mpeg2encode ~]$ urpmf mpeg2encode lib64mjpegtools1.9_0-devel:/usr/include/mjpegtools/mpeg2enc/mpeg2encoder.hh but what you need is mpeg2enc ~]$ urpmf -f mpeg2enc lib64mjpegtools1.9_0-1.9.0-0.rc2.3mdv2008.0.x86_64:/usr/lib64/libmpeg2encpp-1.9.so.0 lib64mjpegtools1.9_0-1.9.0-0.rc2.3mdv2008.0.x86_64:/usr/lib64/libmpeg2encpp-1.9.so.0.1.1 mjpegtools-1.9.0-0.rc2.3mdv2008.0.x86_64:/usr/bin/mpeg2enc mjpegtools-1.9.0-0.rc2.3mdv2008.0.x86_64:/usr/share/man/man1/mpeg2enc.1.bz2
  18. For details of MDE releases for Mandriva 2008.0, go to the MDE forum.
  19. When i installed Mandriva 2007.1 there wasnt a madwifi package that could put my Athros board working. Due to this i build new packages in MDE that could put my Atheros working, other users have been with this prob since in mandriva 2007.1 there are missing updated software to put working latest hadware. In MDE you have a very recent and working dkms-madwif packages and also a recent kernel version build for mdv 2007.1. Yet it would be better if you could post the output of "lspcidrake -v|grep Atheros"
  20. New kbfx-0.4.9.3.1-1mde uploaded for both 2007.1 arches available in the usual place Have fun :)
  21. Yes you can request packages, if i have the time for it, i will create the package :) and i can also to get it commited at mandriva.
