  1. HOkay,

I have MDK10, and I have no idea how to install UT2k4 demo, I apparently downloaded something from the ut website, when unzipped, its some run file. So, If u guyz could tell me from where to get the demo and how to properly install it, that would be cool/

    kaio

  2. wow, that was the easiest installation ever, I think the new mandrake is better, feels stabler, installed everything automatically, did not have to pain over it!!! This is a great +++++! Now you gotta teach me how to make my desktop look cool. Also, how long does it take for the archiver to read the 199.9mb ut2k4 file?

  3. I a have 9.0 sitting on a partition on my comp, and I started liking it, so I decided I have some free time tonight, I will install 10 OE.

Decided to stop by here, and now I am absolutely terrified.

I have a dual boot on windows xp, Windows was installed first, before Linux that is.

I cannot afford for my XP to be touched:

-Too many files that I cannot lose, I will be dead if I lose them.

-My WinXP disc got messed up/abused.

So when I came here, you can see why I am terrified, I see way to many things that can go wrong, or am I just imagining things.

I want to simply replace the 9.0 to 10 on that partition, not upgrade. I dont remember how i got it installed nicely the first time, I think the Linux installer was smart and made another partition, and did the dual boot stuff.

    So... any suggestion, too risky?

  4. does that mean I will lose all my files on the linux partition?

I dont have but I am not completely sure.

Another thing is, I have a dual boot with WInXP, I had XP on first. I lost my install cd for XP, so I dont want a thing messing with that or the partitions. So another install wont mess with it right?

And another thing, is there better device configuration and compatibility with 10?

I had to struggle to get sutff working here, dont want to go tthrough that again.

    what is it called OE?

    oh yeah, link?

  5. ok sound is fine, but how do i get sound to work in flash players.

And Any ideas on how to get a fully fuction Radeon 9600 Pro Working...?

How do i handle tar.gz files because I downloaded Ut2k4 and well, i click on it and nothing happns.

And lastly, I have no idea how to handle .rpm s correctly, someone point me in the right direction.

    I am here to learn.

Oh yeah, I got Mn 9.0, I know 10s out, how can I update?

  6. WEEEELLLL....

    Sound is gone again...

I am using Gnome right now, and I have to say, Gnome whoops KDE, apps actually work in Gnome, or the Gnome based apps are better working. Anyway, sound was there in KDE, disappeared in Gnome. Hopefully it has to do with NVaudio, and maybe that did not initialize correctly.

  7. I beg all of your forgiveness, my sound is working!! I never actually tested it. Since DrakSound wasnt working, ugh... I have wasted alot of your time... I am greatly sorry.

But, I guess there is one last problem, hopefully, and that is prolly easier, Radeon 9600 Pro, I had the drivers downloaded, but nothing...

  8. [root@localhost kaiocool]# mcc
    EMBED
    parent XID      44040659
    mcc pid 3270
    modprobe: Can't locate module serial
    modprobe: Can't locate module serial
Please wait while probing serial ports...
rmmod: module parport_probe is not loaded
    modprobe: Can't locate module parport_probe
    modprobe: Can't locate module parport_probe
rmmod: module parport_probe is not loaded

This is what I get when I run MCC, in a GUI terminal, could that be the reason draksound will not open, or why I am having trouble with my mobo in general, I would not like to make a long list, but Linux does not recongnize my Radeon 9600 either, I think there must be one large problem.

  9. ps aux displays the processes that are running. it is a command line tool. by using | (pipe) and grep (filter) you can narrow down the search of running processes, so that the command looks like
    ps aux | grep artsd

    if when you run

    ps aux | grep artsd

you get an out put of

    username   4875  0.0  0.3  1832  624 pts/5    S    17:12   0:00 grep artsd

then artsd is not running. it just displayed the search for artsd.

I got a similar but different message, different numbers, so artsd is loaded, what is artsd?

  10. wow I am a noob but not an idiot, what do you think I have been doing, what do you think I have been selecting...

    )))

Anyway I got my mouse to work, but not by getting Mandrake to cooperate, I switched my mouse to be ps/2 mouse, i had an adapter, and my keyboard usb, i dont know what was wrong, but lets get on...

    )))

anyone got any ideas on how to get all the feature of an Asus A7n8x delux to work? Like sound perhaps

  11. well I am just getting pissed off now, I tried getting the wheel on my mouse to work through harddrake, and now my mouse wont work. Still cant get sound to work... UGH. And I have realized, that my linux has never realized that I am using a Radeon, because if I try to set XFdrake that way, it doesnt work. So, I think I might upgrade. How do I go about thaT?/
