found an faq on it, and it gave a command that made a link into the plugins dir, but when i went to brows through the plugins dir, i saw a java2 folder that was already in there before the link was made... wonder why it did not work....

now i have it installed, and everything is working except java.... i went to google to find a test java thing: Test Java when i try to test it, it tells me that i need to download an extention, so i do, and it installs fine, and even has a popup window that says installed sucessfully, however, when i close all of the open windows for the browser, and restart it, and try to test the java, it gives me that popup again, could this be a file permissions, problem?

ok, well it could not find it so i did urpmi mozilla firefox, and got an old, .88 version, but i want .91 is there an update button? i downloaded the new firefox, but it is a tar gz file, when i run the installer program it wants to install it in the dir that i unpacked it in, instead of where ever programs are supposed to go in linux. should i change the dir to /usr/bin? or something like that?

i downloaded the package from the website that had the installer included, i did the installation, but i do not know how to start the browser, there is no shortcut in the kmenu and when i type firefox in the terminal, it says command not found...

well is there not some command that can be typed in the terminal? if so i could make a link to it on the desktop, aka an icon...

btw, i just brought it back to my lin drive, and unpacked it there, it works fine now...

it is a extra storage drive for swaping thing btw linux and windows, read my sig for more details....

wow, i have a 4 Mb/s connection, i applied these changes to mozilla, wow, it is so much faster. it was already fast from the internet connection alone, but now it is better, this should go to Tips and Tricks!!!!!

ok i know this may seem like a stupid question but... lets say i was looking in my home directory and i have a .tar.gz file, so i open a terminal and cd, to my home directory, and then extract the file, then cd into the new dir that is made, right? well what if i wanted to come out of the new directory and back to the home directory? would i have to retype the whole address? or is there a command that takes you back to the previous dir?

maybe i didnt disable kde screensaver fully, look at my screenshot of the kde screensave thing above, the way i diabled it was, unchecking the start automatically, is that not how to do it?

but when i do that the kde screensaver comes up...

no, it downloads fine, i just cannot extract the file...

is there a command that you can issue that will instantly lock the screen (or blank it)

TubeClock with seconds i am having a problem untaring this .bz2 file i have tried untaring it by the graphical method, ie rt clicking on it and saying extract here but i get an error message that says: "An error occured while extracting the archive" so i also tried the terminal method by entering the following command as root: tar -xjv 10657-TubeClock.tar.bz2 however, when i execute the command, the cursor just goes to the next line and sits there, it will not extract the file, i let it sit there doing noting for 10 min, nothing happens, i also watched ksysguard and noticed that there was not much cpu activity, please tell me it is just the file, and not my computer, try to unzip it for yourself using the link above

well i am not at that comp anymore, i made it for a teacher at school that wanted to learn linux, but it stoped doing that before i left... maybe it was just a one time thing...

this is a pic of kde's screensaver thing, notice the area where it says "Start screensaver automatically" then it has a box on the second line "After 5 min" so this means that after 5 mins of the keyboard or the mouse not being touched, the screensaver will come on...
