It was storming at my house so i shut my computer off and unplugged it for safety reasons, but this morning, when i went to turn on the comp, instead of seeing lilo boot up, i got

then it just stops with that blinking cursor "_"

so i put in the mandrake 10 cd and said to reinstall the boot loader from the rescue disk, it did its thing, so i restarted the computer, got the same message, then i stuck the mandrake 10 official cd back in, and did an upgrade from the install menu, it went through and asked for all 3 disks as it installed stuff, restarted, same message, WHAT SHOULD I DO!!!!

(on another note, my XP computer upstairs, i unpluged it for the storm, and when i turned it on today, it was missing system.ini, its kinda funny that on two seperate computers with two seperate operating systems, both have boot issues)

(on the xp computer, i just kept restarting it when i got the message that said system ini was missing, and then magically it was fixed, and that is how i am talking to you now)

Does anyone know what i should do? or should i wait for a mirical like the XP computer?

tried using yanc, but it does not seem to add the antialiasing

i know, but where do i make those settings, what do i write in XF86config-4?

i downloaded that yanc thing sttroopers and i dont think it is adding antialiasing to my XF86config-4 file. i saved the settings, and restarted, and i ran a glx gears to see if the fps was slower which it should have been since i set 4x gaussian antialiasing, and the fps remained the same as if nothing happened, does anyone know how to manually add antialiasing options?

should this topic be in hardware or software?

i have a 52x writer drive, but when i try to burn a cd at 52x will not do it, instead it runs at about 15x, is there as way to speed this up? or change some type of buffer to a larger ammount (hard drive space is not a problem i have half a terabyte of free space B) )

i have a quick question about XF86config-4 config...

i want 2x Quincunx Multisampling and Low anisotropic filtering for my Gforce 4 Ti card, i have looked this up in the Install instructions but i don understand what i am supposed to do to the XF86config-4 file to apply these items.

it says this but what do i do with it, where do i put it in the XF86config-4 file?

i cannot seem to get my system to play a lossless wma file that i have, it there a plugin for xmms that will fix this?

what about reinstalling kmix? i know that is a windows habit of mine (reinstalling something untill it works) but it may work here maybe....

i have seen other people's linux desktops via screenshot, i need a bar that i can put extra things on, like the system guard, and the weather, my xmms-kde. i would also loke a bar that i can click on to mount my cd drives and stuff, it would be nice to see a screenshot or two or others desktops

yep try also loading it from the command prompt via as william has said

[root@localhost root]# cd /usr/bin
[root@localhost bin]# xmms

this should launch xmms and then try playing an mp3, if it crashes it will grive you the reason

are you using the link that is in the start menu? make a new link on you desktop

rt click on desktop>>Create New>>File>>link to app

name it XMMS, and then choose xmms's icon for the pic, then click on the "Application" tab

in the space for command type

/usr/bin/xmms

then click ok, try playing an mp3, it should work!!!

oh and make sure you are using

xmms-1.2.10-1mdk
xmms-1.2.10-1mdk
xmms-diskwriter-1.2.10-1mdk
xmms-alsa-1.2.10-1mdk

dont reinstall, just put the disk in and say update, that might fix the problem!!! i know that has worked for some problems for me

How do you configure Kontact or Evolution to check mail from a hotmail account, Is it possible? i have my Kopete logged into my msn messenger account, but that is only because it had preset settings. Which program do you prefer Kontact, Evolution, or another? :D
