  1. I am about to give up and buy Mandrake 10 Official

If I do will it install the nvidia drivers by default, saving me the hassle, or will I have to install the drivers my self, and repeat this (long) process.

Will the drivers that come with the software be designed specificaly for this distro.

I would really like to continue using linux and have been encoraged by the support I have recived here.

    Thanks again for everyones help.

  2. My system is as follows

    AuthenticAMD 1800+ @ 1544 MHz

    Number Of Processors: 1

    NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 500

I installed Version: 1.0-5336 from Nvidias website

My monitor is a generic 19inch CRT

    Thanks again

  3. Just another thing

This was on screen after i tried the commands that aRTee suggested.

(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module!

    (EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***

    (II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"

    (II) UnloadModule: "vgahw"

    (II) Unloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libvgahw.a

(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

    Fatal server error:

    no screens found

  4. Hi All

I have tried the command suggested by aRTee but with no sucsess

mdkkdm did nothing, just said unknown command

    and

kdm made the screen flash about 5 times and then return to the shell i was using.

I did find this in another forum but i am unsure where to put it within the XF86Config file

I have a crt monitor so I added the line,

    option "IgnoreDisplayDevices" "DFP, TV"

    and it now boots perfectly.

    from here http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread...&threadid=25013

does anyone know where it should go or even if it is of any use.

  5. Right

Firstly, thanks for everyone for the help and advice,

I tried typing "modprobe nvidia" and then "startx"

    and got the following message

    INIT: Switching to runlevel: 3

    Stopping dm: [OK]

    And nothing else happened.

I also tried re installing the driver but with the same result, Blank screen etc.

    :wall:

    Any other suggestions

  6. Yes, i installed the driver, it went through all the checks and retuned me to the konsole, i edited the config file (see below) and when i restarted x nothing happened. The following is my XF86Config-4 file which i changed the 'nv' to 'nvidia'

    # File generated by XFdrake.

    # **********************************************************************

    # Refer to the XF86Config man page for details about the format of

  7. I have been trying to install the Nvidia drivers on Mandrake 9.2 Download Edition but with little success, If I was to purchase the new version of Mandrake 10 (the stable version that will be release around may) would the Nvidia drivers be installed by default, saving me the problem of installing them separately, also are there any other benefits of purchasing the software rather than downloading it, apart from supporting future development.

Any info on installing the drivers or purchasing the software would be very useful.

    Thanks

    Richie
