Jim I suggest using mcc until you get more familiar with urpmi. You are doing the same thing but with a GUI which at this stage is better for you I think.
Yes, I agree.
You would also need to install the real-codecs to use mplayer on the BBC site.
It's working now, I didn't have the bandwidth earlier... I'm watching it with Realplayer.
I've tried watching rtsp with both the mplayer (with real-codecs) and realplayer, and on my system I have a better picture with realplayer.
-
I'm trying to watch anything on this page:
For some unknown reason I'm not getting enough bandwidth from the BBC to watch video at my location today, although I have watched it here before.
To test your realplayer with mine go to:
and click on the first Real link, it's Albanian TV, A1 TV. This is an rtsp protocol, and it is working perfectly for me right now.
For the record, I've never watched Albanian TV, because I don't understand Albanian.
Also for the record, your Firefox and it's plugins are giving me a headache!
-
When I click on the link, Realplayer pops up but nothing happens.
Please attach the link you want to watch?
-
Open Firefox and type in as a url:
about:config
rightclick somwhere in the main window you now have, and a box will appear.
Choose "new", then "string". Then copy this line into the appearing text field:
network.protocol-handler.app.rtsp
Into the next text field type:
/usr/local/bin/realplay
rightclick again in the main window and choose “new” then "boolean", and copy the line:
network.protocol-handler.external.rtsp
Then set "true"
Close and restart firefox.
Now Firefox will use Realplayer for that protocol.

You can find a working beryl (I briefly tested it a while back) in the SoS contrib:
-
I've attempted Emmanuel's suggestion, but all I get is:
bash: realplayer: command not found
You open Realplayer with
realplay
Try: /usr/local/bin/realplay

However with the 2007 release Mandriva created the backports repo for those of us who can't wait for the new relase. I don't know if that guide wrote about easyurpmi but if not then go to http://easyurpmi.zarb.org follow the steps and add the backports repo. Firefox 2 should be in it. Note that using backports is not supported by Mandriva. It's only there for your convinience. Not that it would break your system cause it's stable software there.
dexter11 is correct, that guide does not include the backports, sorry.
Follow his instructions and add the backports, and you will find mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.1

Yeap, no doubt about it: I've updated to cooker. How do I stop this from happening again and what can I do about my key?
You have used urpmi to upgrade a system from 2007.0 to Cooker. I've no idea now as to what version your system is, so please post the output of
cat /proc/version
IMHO (after reading your threads and seeing all the many changes you've made), I would suggest that it would be easier for you (and easier for us to help you), to reinstall your system with Mandriva 2007.0 and set up easy-urpmi with the 2007 repos (not cooker).
I feel very strongly that if you follow these instructions:
http://www.howtoforge.com/the_perfect_desk...ndriva_free2007
you will eliminate most of your problems, and your usb-key will work for you... it doesn't need a special driver installed.
-
If you set up Easy-Urpmi with the link at the top of this page, you can install hplip-1.6.12-1 with your package manager or urpmi.
If you would rather have hplip-1.7.1 installed, I would suggest you d/l the file again because your “extraction failed" message could mean a corrupt file.
-
This was probably created at some other time (Mandriva might even do it by default). You are sure you use lilo to handle your booting (I see a directory called grub)?
It is there by default now. :)
-
It appears that you have updated to Cooker, and you may have it's bugs:
-
OK, false alert. I understand now. In fact, it was all very long because it was dowloading 2007 Spring. When I restarted the computer it saw my key. But sill I can't see the web page I want to see.
When you set up easy-urpmi, did you use the 2007 or cooker repos?
Have you checked this yet:
https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?s=&...st&p=303709
Don't boot your system with your usb-key in.
Insert your key and post the output of
dmesg | tail
Try to relax and enjoy that lovely screen saver! :P

Work for me with Mandriva 2007.0 and Firefox 2.0.0.2
That's the UK, France and the US... must be an Aussie thing! :D

#1 is correct
-
Whenever you need some info about a terminal command, you can use the 'man' command:
man urpmi

If you are still having problems with the Mozilla link that SoulSe posted...
Open Firefox and go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Encryption and select both 'Use SSL 3.0' and 'Use TLS 1.0' if they are not already selected.
-
As tyme has already noted, its most likely on ttyS0/COM1 'unless' you have another serial device attached.
I just noticed that this was posted 4 days ago... so please let us know if your having any problems.
-
OK, lets start with going up to https://mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi/index.php and setting that up. You should use 'all' repos closest to you if possible. Now with the MCC package manager or urpmi, you can install isapnptools (and many other things). Now do your 'modprobe ne' and 'modprobe snd-sb16-dsp' and open your MCC > Hardware> Look at and configure hardware, if you do not see your needed modules there to start at boot, then you may have to add them to /etc/modules with an editor manually. Post back here and I will explain how to do that. :)
-
I tried deleting these files one by one with the command "name-of-file -e"
As root it's
rm name-of-file
:)
-
As AussieJohn has said “install isapnptools”
For your audio you can try as root:
modprobe snd-sb16
for ALSA. If that doesn't work use:
modprobe sb
and set up you card with OSS instead of ALSA.
To see if your sound card is working (if your not sure) run as user
alsamixer
Then add the 'working' driver to /etc/modules so it's loaded at boot.
Sorry, but I can't help you with your NIC... as I've never used an ISA NIC with Linux.

I believe your using an i586 DVD? So check to see if when you set up easy-urpmi that you also used i586 and not x86_64?
It looks like you may have installed a 64 bit (x86_64) perl or frozen bubble package?
If you have managed to do this, and have installed very many apps and libs... it would probably be best to reinstall your system.
-
I updated from MCC using either the DVD or one of the easy-urpmi links I have.
Is it possible you have mixed up 32 bit and 64 bit software using your DVD and easy-urpmi?

Here's some info:

I just did a quick google on Linux compatibility with your mb, it 'appears' that the problem is only with the Linux Kernel 2.6.17?
These links are 'not' Mandriva specific.
This guy has it working with Linux kernel 2.6.16:
http://www.phoronix.com/lch/?k=entry&l...ASUS%20M2N4-SLI
This guy has it working with Linux kernel 2.6.18-2:
http://www.planetamd64.com/index.php?showtopic=30492
So you may want to try a Linux distro with at least a Linux kernel > 2.6.18, unless someone here has a solution for you?
Oh, and welcome to the MUB. :)
