Ok it decided to install guarddog with me not doing anything different. I'm happy to install my first program. I was also able to install rp-pppoe with no troubles although I dont know how to use it.
But right now I have a big problem. I went to edit the xorg.conf file to change the mouse. Now it wont boot into KDE (aka x server). HELP!
-
I am using GuardDog 2.3.2. It is working fine on MDK 10.0. Give it a try instead?
I'll try that if I cant get 2.4 to work.
Have you set up urpmi using easyurpmi (google for it)? It will pull the dependencies in for you from a web source if you want. From my xorg.conf
Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "yes" EndSection
Thats for a usb mouse with two buttons and a clickable scroll wheel. Clicking left and right buttons also emulates a 3 button mouse.
No I didnt set up urpmi. I was trying to setup guarddog before I setup my internet connection.
Thanks. I'll do that. :)

1st: I tried to install Guarddog 2.4 a few minutes ago but I couldnt install it. I tried doing the rpm version and after I clicked on the file it said something like "Do you want to install or save it?". I said install it and then it popped up asking about dependecies. I said ok. Then it said: Please insert the medium named "Installation CD 1" on device [/dev/hdc]. I put Mandrake 10.1 CD 1 in my cdrom and click ok but the message comes back up. Whats going on here?
2nd: I'm trying to change my mouse type but it refuses to accept it. I go into MCC and to hardware. I go under mouse and it says its a universal ps2/usb mouse or something like that. I want to change it to USB/Generic 3 button mouse with wheel emulation. It just wont accept it so I say again, Whats going on here?
TIA.

(Sorry if I seem impatient or anything.)

New Connection under Network & Internet in the Mandrake Control Center.
-
Anybody?
-
Ok I tried going through the "New Connection" wizard under "Configure your Computer" configuration panel. It asks me what kind of connection. I choose ADSL since it was the only DSL one on the list. Now it asks me to choose a provider. Theres no US or USA on the list. Just about 20 or so other countries. I'm confused now.
-
What DSL modem do you have? How do you connect to it (eg. usb, ethernet)? What have you tried and how has it failed?
SpeedStream 5360
Ethernet
I havent tried anything yet.
-
the way to connect to your DSL, assuming you mean your dsl router, you open a browser window (either konqueror, modzilla, or any other web browser) and type the local ip address of your router (ususally this is 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1) you should now get the login screen as you are used to.
Good luck
Dont have a router. Getting a router is kinda out of the question (unless I get one for xmas) as I dont have the money for it.
If he's typing in a username and password, he likely doesn't have a straightforward LAN-type setup, but some sort of PPPoE or PPPoATM arrangement. That is the way it is setup in XP (PPPoE).
-
I wasnt quite sure where to put this so I put it here. If it needs to be moved then by all means do so. Anyways on to the question...
I have DSL and I'm looking for a way to connect to my DSL like I do in XP. In XP I have an icon I just doubleclick and then I put in my username and password and hit connect. Then when I want to log off I just rightclick the icon in the systray and hit disconnect. I'm looking to find a way to do that in Mandrake 10.1 Official. TIA.

Is there any word on if you can install fine on nforce mobos unlike 10OE where it had problems?
-
-
I have the same problem. 10 wont install. Keeps hanging. 9.2 works just fine. Hopefully this will be fixed in 10.1.
-
I did have 9.2 installed but decided to try 10. It kept locking up at different points during the installation. So now I'm going out and trying different distros. Just downloaded Suse 9.1. Gonna try that in alittle while.
-
Ok I want to be able to get on the internet with 9.2 but I'm unsure on what all I need to do to setup my dsl connection and what else I need to do to keep myself safe. I know I need a firewall but not sure what else. I hope I explained it good enough.

Thanks Dean. ;)
-
Thanks very much! :)
-
Ok. Sorry for sounding like a noob here but what would be the best way to do this?
-
Do you have to be in root to edit it? I'm not sure how to do it (editing the file that is).
-
Awesome! I was just looking for this info. Thanks Mystified.
-
:o You added 10 more steps. lol. Thanks for that. ;)

So that has to be set up before I do the Mandrake Update?
yes/no
click on mandrake update and it will attempt to find a mirror for a 'update source' so that you can then 'update'.
Oh ok. Thank you. B)
