When trying to install the network, it doessn't show any support for linksys adapters at all...
What version of the WUSB11 do you have ? I have 2.8 and there is a way to get it going in 9.2, depending on the chipset it uses.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year all;
They have added all sorts of extra's to it such as Multi Player and CTF, Snatch etc...enjoy the pain :)
-
Success! All I did at this point was to set my IP statically, and it started working. Strange... After New Year's or so, I hope to compile my steps for the edification of all the other Linux wlan users; is there a general repository for that sort of tutorial thing?
Thanks for all the help!
I Guess it would fall into the How To Section, I have just added my experiences to my own website, as the steps and support changes with each and every distro. The kernel support changes also effect it greatly.

Just saw this on the net this morning. The new nvidia driver is out numbered 5328. Anyone tried it yet? I'm downloading it now and will give it a test run after I back up.
Here's the link to the download page:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display...y_ia32_1.0-5328
Works great for me on Mandrake 9.2, and G4 Ti 4600, but no GUI settings with this one yet.

OK.. I tired that.. even 'REBOOTED' although I admit I thought long and hard on how to accomplish this without having to actually do it.. :P
Long and short of it... It failed to help... so I just obtained copy of 9.1 CD's and upgraded... everything working like wonderful now... I pitty 9.0 users trying to use this scanner... It's a real pitty.. the list of supported scanners for epson just SKIP this model.. it goes from 1240 to 1260 with no 1250 in between.. DARN!!..
OK.. better run... Thanks for your suggestions..
Yeah, the newer distribuitions detect the hardware on install. I had to go up to 9.2 to get my Wireless going also, but hey such is life :)

This game REALY makes me happy. It is like tribes2 but it works the way it's supposed to, and is already less buggy than T2 was when released.
Everyone should try this game, it's realy great.
It's still missing some features that you would expect in a release, but they should be comming soon, and for now, it's a ball to play.
Yeah ... I am pretty impressed with the game play too so far. They really need more download mirrors though for Linux, there only seems to be one, and it is slow and unreliable. It took me a while to get a complete download that worked.
-
No, I hadn't and it didn't work.
Wouldn't I have to get the driver loaded before I could do that?
Do you have wireless-tools installed ? This package is critiacal for wireless devices. It contain commands such as "iwconfig". ?
NEVERMIND :) I can see it now, I just work up and can't seem to delete this post now ?

I'm having a lot of mysterious problems getting legends to work. Could someone with mandrake 9.2 tellme EXACTLY what the did to get it working?
Thanks
I untarred the file to /usr/local/games and then renamed the folder to "legends", ran the ./LinLegends file and it ran like a charm in 9.2. What errors are you gettting, your download may have been incomplete, it took me 2 weeks to get a complete download.

Andrewski here is sort of what I have in mine;
DEVICE=wlan0
BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=192.168.x.x
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
NETWORK=192.168.x.0
BROADCAST=192.168.x.255
ONBOOT=yes
KEY=off
WIRELESS_RATE=11M
WIRELESS_MODE=Managed
WIRELESS_ESSID=linksys
Also you will or should have to create this file from scratch. I had too do the same thing. Secondly, do you know if the correct device is being detected in Mandrake Control Center, or is it listing it as an unknown device still ? Secondly, once you have your wireless card working just edit the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 and change the "ONBOOT=yes" to "ONBOOT=no" and you will be all set, once things are working, you can ping the LAN and access the Internet.
-
Steve,
Thanks. That worked to set the address, but I still couldn't get the card to "talk" with the AP. I think I'm just not knowledgable in the ways of de/activating hardware, but when I restart, the card is no longer up and I have manually load the drivers again. Plus, I don't know how to get my eth0 to stay down so I can test the ath0 connection. Any tips?
What do you have in your /etc/sysconfig/network and /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0 files ? You should have
HOSTNAME=yourhostname
NETWORKING=yes
GATEWAY=192.168.x.x
GATEWAYDEV=wlan0
I was missing the gateway address in the lines above, at first and I could not access the AP properly. Also make sure you are not using WEP for testing purpose, do you fillter on the router by MAC and turn WEP off.

I am planning to buy some hardware in order to be able to connect to the internet from my Linux box. I thought a couple of solutions over and came to the conclusion the best thing to do would be to buy another Wireless Router.
The product I was thinking of is a Dlink Dl-624+ 54Mbps Wireless router. will cost about €150, which is not really a problem at the moment.
See http://www.dlink.co.uk/pages/products/129.htm
So: anyone has got any experience with this router/setup, any tips, ... ? It's just that I always want to be informed before making a purchase.
Darkelve
(Maybe for some of you this seems to be overkill, but:
- We have a wireless home netwerk, with an Intel Pro/wireless (2011b) Acces point, connecting to a couple of PCMCIA cards (laptops) and a wireless USB device (my PC, only works under windoze). But I will probably move out of the house one of these years, and then my family will still need the access point. As for myself, possibly I will need a (wireless) router once again.
- Since it should not be a problem getting the router and access point to communicate to each other, all there is left is to plug the router into my PC's ethernet jack, for which the card is detected and works (Realtek 8193).
- Possibly I can use it to play around with some more advanced internet settings. When I screw up on my router, it will not take the whole home network down, as it did sometimes before
)
I just moved to the LinkSys BEFW11S4 and WUSB11 2.8 wireless USB adapters, and it's now working nicely with Mandrake 9.2. The big thing to remember is make sure there is support for any wireless of the devices you are looking at, or at least some development drivers, so that you can have some input on their development.
-
LinkSys WUSB11 version 2.8 now runing on Mandrake 9.2. I just followed the instruction in the above post, but also using the latest CVS tarball (as of 2 nights ago). They added support for this chipset using this driver. "at76c505-rfmd2958.o"

cool.
ps. your doom legacy installer is a dud.
Ravage;
Okay give Doom Legacy another shot, I changed a line in the setup.xml code, so that it should not do complain about running the 2 binaries. I also just finished upgrading to 9.2, so it was the first game I tested after making the chages, and it installed fine. The first time I ran it, it complained about the Glibc version, but once I made the changes, it didn't complain anymore. Let me know what happens now.

Just as a follow up, Derek and I are working on a driver for 9.1 for the WUSB11 ver 2.8, very slow process though. Will keep posting.
I got the driver compiled finally, the WUSB11 USB Adapter ver 2.8 uses the ATMEL 505 chipset. Once I plug in the adapter now, it is being detect in USB Viewer. Next I have to get the settings entered and put in to see if it will communicate with the Access Point.

Dear all ive got a dlink 520+ wireless card and need to apply the sid name to it and also the encryption code for it. Can anyone advice me how to do this. Many thanks
Need more specs, you need to know the chipset of the wireless divice, and is it USB, PCI, or PCMCIA ? Is Mandrake detecting the wireless divice ? I have a wireless USB LinkSys WUSB11 version 2.8, and I could not do anything to set it up until it was detected by Mandrake 9.1. I am almost there now, I just need to do a few more things yet. I did manage to get the driver compiled and when I plug in the USB device, it is being recognized. Now I just have put in the settings to see if the WLAN0 actaully communicates with the Access Point/Router.

Yep, game has to be installed as ROOT to get full access. The binary thing is one I have not seen yet, actaully that is the first time I have seen it. I will have a look at it. Thanks Ravage :)

that would be great! (I'm not wireless) Where's your site?
I just posted a link at the top of the hardware forum on how to get wirless working in Mandrake 9.1/9.2, it looks promising, but I am not having much luck with the version 2.8 adapter and Mandrake 9.1.
-
I still am not having much luck with version 2.8 of the LinkSys WUSB wireless adapter, but perhaps some of you will have better luck with this link;
-
cool.
ps. your doom legacy installer is a dud.
:unsure: What is it not doing ?
-
I am trying to do the same thing with the USB LinkSys Adapter, it is definately a whole new frontier for me :) I don't seem to have the /sbin/cardctl command, is this another package I am missing ?I ran urpmi prism2-x.x.x.rpm and it didn't have any package discrepancies.

Check out linux-wlan.org for an extensive list of wireless adapters and the linux drivers reported to work with them. According to the list, one version of the WUSB11 is tested to work, but a newer version isn't. I guess the suggestion then is to figure out which version you have and go from there.
I looks as if the USB Adapter is supported, and I actually found a mandrake package in the Cooker Archive for this driver. Now it is just the matter of getting it up and running. I think I will be documenting this one and adding to my site, on how to setup Wireless. Thanks and I will keep everyone informed as to how things go.

Anyone running this combination with Mandrake 9.1 yet; ?
BEFW11S4 Linksys wireless router,
WUSB11 (USB Wireless Adapter),
I have my windows clients running fine now, with out any disconnections, but I wanted to get some
feedback on using this hardware with Mandrake Linux. Thanks for the input.

Anyone tried installing "SuSE: Wine Rack" on Mandrake 9.2 ?? It looks pretty sweet, and may save the hassell of downloading and compiling everything manually. Please let me know about anyone having any experiences with it ??
