  1. I think what he is aiming for is convert a avi file that used divX for the sound to a mpeg (?), with the sound intact, rather than boost 2-channel audio to 5:1.

    Thanks guys, Tyme had it right ... and that is pretty much what I thought to, but just wanted confimation :) The movies that are being downloaded or converted have to be true AC5.1 and can't be convert from AC2 to AC5.1.

  2. Howdy again folks and Merry Christmas;

    Is there any plans for a 64 bit version for Mandriva ? I have been trying to find one all day but there is nothing in the PLF repository any where. Thanks in advance :)

    Hey All;

    Long time no post :) I just thought I would pass on the word that you can now download and test out Serious Sam 2 Linux Client (RC) along with everyone else (like me). All you have to do is send an email to Vedran at the Link below;

  4. Anyone;

    I am starting to get a little concerned as my list of updates is growing, that I am unable to get updated. It started the OpenSSL patches, and now Xorg and several others will not update. I just keep getting discrepancy errors about other packages that are installed already. The errors look like this;

    To satisfy dependencies, the following package(s) also need

    to be installed:

    lib64openssl0.9.7-0.9.7g-2.1.20060mdk, lib64openssl0.9.7-devel-0.9.7g-2.1.20060mdk

    If I select yes then it just complains about the other packages that are already installed and will not replace the packages like it does with other updates. What is up with that ? The list is growing at a large rate. With other distros I didn't have this problem. The Software Update would just uninstall and replace the packages that I selected.

    I have tried clearing the cache, running the commands from a console, and it still won't apply the updates. I have also searched the forum for help. I have noted that other ppl have been having the same problem that I am having, soome solved it, but none help my issue. Thanks in advance.

  5. Not sure if it is the same chipset on your card as is on mine, but this driver works for my LInkSys-Cisco WUSB54G (rt2500 chipset). I am just working out the final configuration issues.

    As an after note, here are forums where I have been getting help with the driver for my LinkSys-Cisco WUSB54G ver 4 Wireless USB adapter (B)

  6. Anyone;

    I just installed MDL again for the first time since hardware crashed last summer. I have a new system now, and it is using the AMD 64 CPU and PCI Express video card. I managed to install the Beta version of 10.2 for AMD 64 arch, so far everything is runnining nicely. They only problems I am having are find AMD 64 programs for Mandrake.

    Is anyone running games on the AMD 64 version of Mandrake ? I am also trying to track down a HalfLife 2/Steam on Cedega installation how to, so I can try to get the Retail game running. I have not had much luck yet. Thanks in advance ..

  7. I had to retire my old dualie system, it just up and died on me one day. I upgraded

    to and MSI K8N Neo 4 with the PCI Express onboard, and a LeadTek Geforce 6800GT PCI Express video card. I also have the AMD 64 3200+ CPU. In windows, the hardware runs okay, but I am experiencing some problems gaming .. lockups crashes.

    I am just installing MDL 10.2 B2 for AMD 64, and it has been a little rough getting through the installation so far. I did manage to get it installed this afternoon. I have yet to get into X and install the NVidia drivers for the MB. I want to see how much better the speed is and if it will be more stable than bloatware. I will keep you posted.

  8. I have a machine that I'm using to do some backup stuff.  It has internal drives and one external firewire drive (at a time) that it backs up to once a week.  We swap that one out every week and use it as an off-site backup.

    I don't want it (or any other firewire drive) to automount when I plug it in, but I do want it to be detected as sda..  I want my backup script to mount it, copy to it, and then unmount it, so that it can be safely unplugged any time except when it is actually writing.  And yes, I know, journalled file systems, blah, blah, perfectly safe, blah, I don't want to unplug things without unmounting them beforehand, and it is likely that this drive will be unplugged before it is backed up to at least occasionally.

    What do I have to do to make this happen?  I know how to mount and unmount the drive; I just need to know how to prevent the initial automount.

    I have an addition to this question :help: . What lines go in the modprobe.conf file in order to get the modules to load a boot time ? I had to add this card manually, and I want it to be detected automatically when I boot up ? Please and thanks.

  9. It's not a problem but I think 1 post is cleaner.

    Do not know about the 1st question, but perhaps you have to change your permissions for the second question?

    Okay, I made another mistake the DV Camcorder is strickly USB. The port on the side says USB vice Firewire. I should not have to do anything to the device file. Question is now, what software do I use ? Kino seems to only be looking for firewire devices.

  10. Relic2K, it is better that you edit your original post ("Edit" buttom at the bottom right) instead of posting 3 instances about the same topic.

    Do you still need help with your hardware? I didn't really understand your last question.

    sincerely,

    Darkelve;

    I was simply posting followups and updates to my initial question/request for help. I am slowly figuring this out on my own, but I was wonder if anyone else was using this DV Camcorder with MDL. I could use some help finguring out how to burn home movies from the Digital Tape to a DVD burner.

    The JVC camcorder has a firewire port on the side, and I have a firewire to USB cable which plugs into my Belkin USB 2.0 PCI card. MDL is now detecting the camcorder in USB Viewer and it is using the "usb-storage" module. I know need a program for transfering the Tape Media to DVD or Hardrive so I can burn it. I have Kino and a couple of other programs installed but I have never played with this stuff before. When I go in the the Kino preferences I am getting an error about the IEEE1394 (/dev/ieee1394) not responding saying

    "The raw1394 module must be loaded, and you must have read and write access to /dev/raw/1394 "

  11. Update;

    Well it looks like the output on the camera is in fact firewire vice USB. The cable has a firewire plug on one end, and a USB connector on the other end. What file do I add the modules for the firewire modules to be loaded at bootup ? I am not sure exacly what goes where in each file...... Thanks.

  12. Hey all;

    I just picked up a JVC GR-D72 USB DV MiniCam. When I plug it in and turn it on, MDL is recognizing the fact that it is there, USB Viewer shows it, but I think I still need the proper driver module for this device. Does anyone else have or using this hardware with MDL 10.1 ? Anyone know where a driver can be fournd ? I have been doing some research, but so far most of it is just firewire releated material. My main goal is to copy and burn most of it to DVD, which most ot the software I have already installed. Thanks in advance. :help:

  13. My USB Logitech QuickCam Express works like a charm with GnomeMeeting, once I installed the drivers. I have also been trying to get Gaim-Video installed to see how well it works with that, but I am not having much like with the application itself.

  14. It is not a data storage card, it is simply a Belkin 5 port USB 2.0 (PCI) controller card which allows to use other USB Devices. I am pretty sure that I have to add some modules lines to the /etc/modprobe.conf as well, but I am not sure what they are. I have finally found some useful information that I can try when I get off work tonight. Will keep adding and posting. It also appears that they are no longer using the /etc/modules.conf file for specifying modules boot up, so I am still trying to figure out where all the configurations information has to go now. Thanks.

  15. Hey All;

    This is a first for me, but I bought a new USB PCI (Belkin) card once I had already did a fresh installation of MDL 10.1. So now when I boot up, the Card is not being detected properly. The module is compilied into the kernel that much I do know already. Even USBView is not seeing the card properly. My question is how do I go about manually configuring the files (What goes in which files) to get my USB card working in Linux ? Anyone know of any HWTs ? Thanks in advance :)

  16. I have a Belkin UPS that I've been using for a couple years now, under Windows XP. Since I recently switched over to Mandrake 10.0, is the UPS just a useless device attached to my computer now?  I checked Belkin's website, and they don't offer support for Linux.  Am I just out of luck?

    Axel;

    Belkin has UPS support and drivers for almost every OS out there. See the below URL. I had my 1400 installed and running in MDL 10 just find using the downloadable software, nice GUI and all. I am running 10.1 B2 now so I have not had a chance to check it out yet :)
