i went looking for xinetd in webmin and i think i physically enabled it when i was trying to get drakTermServ to work for a look see bout 2/3 weeks back.

now that i dont need it i guess i can disable it.

it basically came down to this situation:

when i used easysw.com' easy package manager (the makers of cups) it created rpms for me but it was like epm-3.0.6-2.4-intel-linux.rpm (yes i have an i686 rpm of epm)

and when i checked uname -a i saw all those unknowns and figured epm was using uname to get the data to name the rpm.

and so i wanna make rpms that are fully named everytime i make an rpm instead of me renaming it

this discussion is getting interesting to me and hope u all dont mind if i try to imagine a real world examples here

scenario 1: assume u have a mdk 9.0 install on a 40gb hard disk and it doesnt matter what sizes the partitions are coz i am assuming the final solution is to add a second hard disk.

assume also that u can NOT split up the users (symlinks or nfs shortcuts or whatever) AND the users are pretty much static (user1, user2, dept_manager1, ceo, etc)

scenario2: assume everythign is full and there is only 1 user and i want to add more space to see under /home and only /home (i am thinking symlinks here - no reason why)

so what kind of solutions would be used?

this is ok if its my home pc but assume its for a server say like ltsp. and the /home partition is full and i want to increase it ..

the solution above wont be sufficient so how do i go about it?

if i mount it as /home/extra_space wont that mean the path will become /home/extraspace/user1/ ?

so the hp5l driver is incomplete but as in windows any of the previous printer drivers will works such as the 4l driver or 2l or series 2...

the pritner is currently working with a version 4 driver

yesterday i removed supermount .. and then only root could log into the workstation!!

i had to delete .ICEauthor* n .kd* to log in as user again

so supermount goes back on! :( :(

oh and today i have something new

kmail n mozilla doesnt want to d/l any new messages .. to make a long story short .. i hd to either logout or reboot ALL the workstations

my apologies to the cups thing .. i did all the updates .. i m on the latest and still got problems . its not the printer as it works fine on windows.

yeah .. i read up on that b4 i posted then forgot about it.

and yes .. the scanner is listed in usbview but not in scanimage -L nor in xscanimage .. only immediately in boot up and one or the other

oh yeah .. supermount .. i saw the post but i read somewhere it was fixed!!!

i got lm9.0 i686 installed with the default cups and hplj5 printer with 1mb simm (tho cups likes to see it a lj5000 color if i remember correctly).

the thing is

sometimes the printer disappears from the workstations

sometimes the print job gets spooled and doesnt print

sometimes the job takes ages to spool

i cant find anything common except the server n workstations is using cups.

i want to resolve this problem ..any and all help appreciated

i dont know exactly what the title of the thing i m looking for but

this is what it does:

has a contacts database

sends web based email from an external mail server

has a history of in and out emails

history of all users viewable by admin/subadmin

web based

- everything revolves around the customer ie. from customer contact details page can send email n view in/out emails etc. -

everysingle time i try printing any/all contacts from evolution the contacts portion of evolution hangs and i have to quit evolution.

is this a known bug? i have searched the net for anything related to this and nothing not even a nibble.
