  1. I downloaded a program I need. It was in tar.gz format so I untarred it and all that's there is a license and an executable file called acrossl. There's no configure, makefile, install or any instructions. I tried to run the program in the directory it's located in by typing ./acrossl both as root and user but I get an error message that it can't locate that file or directory. I'm stumped. Any ideas?

  2. Actually the autostart directory is in Italian, Spanish, French and about a zillion other languages and all it says is "autostart" :?

You might try to edit your home/Desktop/.directory and remove the Removeable Media text and see if that makes a difference. Remember that's just a guess on my part and I assume no responsility! I think I should add that to my sig line for all my posts.

  3. I'm sorry ral but I don't understand the question. Maybe I'm being a little dense but you're talking about a desktop/browser/office application and I don't see the connection. Could you please explain or maybe somebody else will know what you're referring to and provide you with an answer. Sorry! :?

  4. I use vi. I looked at emacs. All I have to say is

I know this is offtopic and I'm a moderator and setting a bad example (shhh don't tell the other mods) but frew your avatar would make an awesome tattoo!

  5. Don't feel silly. I helped a guy one time that knew a LOT more about Linux that I do. But he was looking for something difficult and I could see that he was overlooking a very obvious, easy solution. I was really hesitant to respond but I did half expecting to get told off. Instead he posted back with a thanks, that sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees. Happens to all of us!
