  1. No, there have been consoles that can surf the net...My friend has a Dreamcast with a disc that does that. I mean, like, having a desktop and stuff would make it a computer, but just having a net surfing prog wouldn't...Though, if it used Linux, I have no doubt someone would at least attempt to port a desktop to it. But why not? it'd still be cheaper.

hmmm...perhaps someone could adjust Falcon Northwest's Fragbox into this... :P

  2. Hey, my windoze drive got a virus. So I got problems...luckly it's the same comp as my mandrake hard drive, so I can still access the files. My question is, is there any way to scan windoze for viruses from linux? I tried housecall.antivirus.com, but it kept saying I needed JAVA...even after I installed it 3 times :P

    any ideas?

  3. looking for a cheap (preferably free, but I'll go up to about $50...that's all I can afford though) but freaking awesome video editing prog. Like, not cut and paste type editing...not transition editing...but, like, green screen editing...adding backgrounds...I'll settle for single frame editing too if I have to...but it needs a GUI...it's not really anything important...just cool...and a 30-day...15-day...even, like, 5-day trial would be fine. I doubt there is one, but it'd be cool for our band music videos we're planning...I have no clue how we're gonna do them ATM...

  4. Is there any way to get the sound off a wmv or mov movie file? I have this P.O.D. bonus video, and it's before the CD with that song came out, so the lyrics are different, it's got a lotta extra stuff at the end, and, it's live...and I want it on my MP3 player...anyone know how, without wiring my speakers up to the Line-In?

  5. How do you update Mozilla? I went to mozilla.org, DLed the newest version, it installed perfectly, after which it ran...and it ran fine...I couldn't change the skin, which is the main reason I updated, but I figured I've never done that before, maybe I just have to restart mozilla for it to take effect. Problem is, when I run mozilla, it runs the old version :-S

I tried rebooting my comp too, figuring that might update the shortcuts or something...didnt' help...and I tried stuff like 'mozilla-1.6' in terminal...didn't work

  6. ugh...yes, all other links are non-existant as of now, so you will get ads...I should have said that...it should just direct to www.web1000.com though...usually does...I dunno...

    Darkelve - web1000 is a great host...no ads except the 404 pages...50MB space...totally free...only better host I've ever seen is T35 (unlimited space and bandwith) but they have, like, 3 popups per page...so I kept getting complaints...then I found web1000 :-p

  7. Aight, first I'd like to say I'm not posting here to get this site known, and this site is more a product of bordom than any real use...it's not trying to rival any professional linux pages and whatnot...don't ask why I said that, I just felt like I should...if you see the layout, you'll know that all already :-P

That being said, here's what I'm doing (I'll get there in a few sentences...): This all started as I was bored and looking at some wallpaper other ppl had done in GIMP...I started messing around with it, made a few cool ones, put 'em on my site. Problem was, they didn't fit on my site, and were therefore in a very obscure dark corner (http://urza9814.web1000.com/pages/Other/Wallpaper.html) so, I thought I should make a new site for them...but a new site just for wallpaper seems useless...so I decided to add some linux data. Here's the site: CAUTION: ALL LINKS GO TO ADVERTISING and here's what I need: I want any Myths, FAQ questions, Info in general, and Links, that you have know. Ask any semi-geek friends you have for Myths or FAQ...or things you used to think...or just what you think ppl might hear. See, the difference between this an most other sites (at least all the ones I've seen) is that it focuses more on what Linux ISN'T...whatever you say it is, you'll most likely have people saying 'but I heard...' or 'I thought...' where if you get them to just forget those immediatly by flat out saying they're false, they won't question it...or that's the theory anyways :-P

  8. I finally decided I wanted to use a prog on my comp for my email...spruce looks nice...at least until my RAM gets here...I would use Evolution, but I have that set up for my mom, and I don't wanna have to switch profiles...why bother when there are plenty other progs?

The main reason I wanna do this is because my mailbox is almost full...and I do not delete stuff...if I have to I'll forward it to my old hotmail account...but I DO NOT delete email...lol...don't know why, but I don't...

Anyways, the problem is I don't know the server names for netscape.net email...I tried mail.netscape.net and mail.netscape.com (same format as the email from my ISP), and I noticed that when the email page is loading, it connects to sns.cqr.ncmail.netscape.com and ncmail.netscape.com, so I tried those...they didn't work either. Anyone have any ideas? I don't really mind using the net...always have, it's not much of a problem...plus if I do have a problem with my comp, I can still get the stuff somewhere else...but space is an issue...netscape only gives you 5MB

  9. I believe there are some encription programs on www.tucows.com ...and they always have a link to the developer's home page...try looking there...

hmm...I think I shall as well...just because...I'm obsessed with security...as some of you know, I have 4 firewalls on my windoze comp :P

Plus it makes you sound cooler :P

  10. don't really understand that...I think I'll just use Dragonmage's idea...but first I have to:

a ) get the full mozilla for windoze...I only have firebird...I don't believe that has email

b ) get a response on the M$ forums...I get an MAPI error when I try to export the messages...and they don't say how to fix it on OE 6

  11. Is there any way to export all the emails and address book and stuff from M$ Outlook Express to Evolution (specifically...but any client will be ok if you can't on that).

I'm trying to get my mom to use linux, 'cause all she does is email and net, but it's really annoying for me with her constant booting to windoze...and IE doesn't work for some reason, so she's yelling at me to fix that (I have her using Mozilla Firebird, but links still try to open in IE)...I DON'T want to have to FWD all this stuff again...we had to do that once before...it's not fun...she has a few hundred emails...but yea...I suppose not getting the E-mail is ok...she'll just have to use both if she needs to...though she'll probably stick with windoze if I can't do that...but the address book is the big thing...

I'm goon have a linux family soon...showing my mom the awesome-ness of it with email...just showed my brother the awesome-ness of it's games :-P

BTW [OT] - for those of you that have seen my many complaints about my comp...I finally ordered 256MB RAM!!! and only $35, compatibility guaranteed, low density SDRAM...and if you've ever had to buy low density SDRAM, you know it's expensive stuff...

  12. My windows partition is always mounted...makes it easier :-P

I suppose there are reasons that that is being stupid too...just like booting into root in a GUI...but hey, I'm stupid...get used to it :-P If you say you shouldn't do something, I probably do :-P

Main reason I have windows mounted is...well...it's been like that since I insatalled linux...but main reason I would never unmount it is I use it a lot...my CD burner prog kept locking up the other day in windoze, so I went to linux...had to boot into root in a GUI, but I was able to use the linux burner prog to make the CD...didn't do that in the first place because I've never used any linux CD burner progs...and I wanted to do it quickly...funny thing is, I spent about an hour on windoze as it locked up, froze, loaded, etc..., when it took about 10 minutes on linux :-P Also keep it mounted because my printer is on the other comp...so to print stuff from linux I have to put it on the windoze partiton, boot to windoze, and go on the other comp and get it through the network...the printer my mom got doesn't work with linux, and it doesn't work with a network...

  13. My personal opinion: Neither. Window Maker or IceWM...IceWM is better if you like the taskbar thingy on the bottom of the screen...I like Window Maker best myself...it takes some getting used to though...but I guess when you can't run anything else because your comp is a 4 year old POS, you get used to it quick :P

If you wanna use either KDE or Gnome, go for Gnome...As far as I know, programs will work with either...but if they don't for some reason, you can always switch for that prog...Like me...I log into Window Maker, but if I need a prog and don't know the name of it, or if there even is a prog for that, I go to IceWM for the menu...then switch back when I'm done

  14. lol...yea...I don't do any big stuff on my site though...like, it's all HTML...occassionally I'll put in a bit of JAVAscript...but I do that myself...I don't know how to do that in frontpage...never works right...I don't know how to do anything on frontpage that isn't typing into the box...it just never works for me :P

Sure, I've tried making submit buttons and such...but they don't work. So I stick with frontpage for plain HTML...and www.bravenet.com for anything else :P
