  1. Thanks to Greg 2, Pmpatrick and Scarecrow for providing me the invaluable guidance to move forward.

One point that I am not able to grasp is the structure within the fstab file. The following is from the original fatab:

    # Entry for /dev/sda5 :

    UUID=f8d97912-6435-11de-bfcd-2b9329108ba0 / ext3 relatime 1 1

This one as suggested by scarecrow:

    dev/sda7 /mnt/fat1 vfat iocharset=utf8,defaults 0 0

Do they mean the same thing?

As far as the 2 swap files are concerned I suspect one might have one from the previous version, which are are being removed during installation.

    Thanks

  4. Hi all,

My harddisk is set up for dual boot between windows 2000. The harddisk contains 1 partition for NTFS,2 partitions for exts and 4 partitions of FAT32.

After I installed Mandriva 2009 Spring, the 4 FAT partitions do not get mount during installation and therefore I cannot see them under "Dolphin". The NTFS partition is OK.

I have an external USB harddisk which can also FAT32 and it got mount automatically.

Can someone provide me with some guidelines of how to further proceed.

    Thanks

  5. Hi,

I use Mandriva linux 2008. 1 and one issue about Firefox download file to external storage that is behaving strangely which I am seeking some advice.

I have two external USB storage : flash drive and external harddisk. When I use Firefox to download files to these drives, it failed. Yet when I first download the files to "internal" hard disk and then move these to the external USB drives then it is working fine.

    Any help is appreciated.

  6. I have a Sis 315 graphic card on an AMD 1800 with one Mitsubishi LCD 18 in. This setup is OK with Mandrake 9.0. I recently do a fresh install of 10.1 OE and I noticed the following problems. By the way I have downloaded the latest driver from winischhofer but this does not seems to help.

    1. I cannot directly boot to KDE login screen. This will result in a blank screen.

    2. I can login using safemode then init 3. If I start "X" it will result in a blank screen. If I type "KDE" then it will bring in to the graphic interface. However if I try to logout it will result in a blank screen. Blank screen means completely black.

    3. For all instances that I see a blank screen, seems the machine has been lock and I have to use Ctrl-Alt_del to boot up the machine.

When I checked the Xorg.0.log there are no error lines. Sis 315 and the monitor seems to be correctly detected.

The following is the Xorg.conf :
