  1. I have now tried 10.1ce and 10.1or and still nothing but dramas......

I can get 10.1ce to install with no usb or firewire which is no good and so far I haven't been agle to get 10.1or to install at all, it just gets to the configuration panel and locks up when trying to configure the display.

    This is very frustrating....

  2. The problem is with my acer laptop, both versions of move work fine as does knoppix, and xandros but anything after 9.2mdk or any of the redhat/ fedora distros wont go nor will debian.

The problem seems to be with the video with 10.1or and with 10.1ce it seems to be the usb/firewire seems to be a problem, and considering that I use usb a lot that is a problem for me.

I believe it to be a pre-compiled kernel issue but as a newbie I have no iea how to recompile a new kernal to allow it to install correctly.

It just seems strange that the live ones run and not the install versions.

I could use 9.2 at a pinch but then I get dramas with using the touch pad or a mouse. it doesn't seem to like have the two connected at once.....

With all these dramas it looks like I will be staying with the crooks from redmond for some time yet......

  3. I know that mandrake move is a live distro but I would like to know if it is possible to actually install it? It is just that it runs on my laptop really well and 10 or 10.1 does not run at all very well.

I have seen a mention of being able to install knoppix to hard drive in a magazine so I was wondering if the same could be done with move?

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated....

    Cheers, Jungle...

  4. Try this:

After pressing  f1,  type "vgali noauto"  at the boot prompt.

[For fedora, type at boot prompt: "linux nofirewire" to prevent the hanging; if that doesnt help,

one may have to give "linux nousb nopcmcia noprobe nofirewire" .]

This will  bypass the hardware detection  but the installation will go through

and you will have to specify the hardware parameters by later.

    All the best!

How do I get mdk to auto detect usb devices such as external disc drives once mdk is up and running.

Using the noauto command allows me to install the os but then when I plug in an external hdd into the usb port nothing happens......

    This is most annoying...

  5. I have just purchased an Acer Aspire 1355 laptop and my problem is that I can't get mandrake to install on it. I have tried 9.0, 9.2, 10ce and 10 full and none of them will install either from cd or dvd internal or external roms.

I get the initial screen where it says "f1 for options or enter to install" then it scrolls through the hardware pc bus ide bus etc then it starts the next screen "loading into memory", this is where it stops, the cd drive stops and just sits there.

I have also tried fedora and the screen goes all weird and you can't read it.

Does anybody have any experience with this or any suggestions?

    Any help appreciated.

    Cheers, Junglejuice

  6. I am a newbie to linux and i have just installed mdk 9.2, the install went well but when i try to install extra packages i get a message that reads "bad signatures", what causes this? Does this mean these packages won't work? Is there a way to fix it?

Also is there a way to change the boot sequence from the default "linux" first to "windows" as the default after 9.2 is installed?

    Many thanx in advance, Jungle....
