So I have to ask, is it necessary at all to do what you want to do?
yes and no. recompiling the kernel for your specific system will optimize it, but really, it works fine w/o doing that. i have yet to venture into the realm of kernel recompilation.....but...i'm considering it.

go here: http://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distribut...drake/9.0/rpms/ (this is a good source for a lot of RPMs that are hard to find sometimes)
download the XFT rpms (regular and devel-i always get both, because i may need them later) and also the fontconfig rpms. those are what you're missing, then try to re-install the RPM.
FYI: when you run into dependencies like that, try going to rpmfind.net and doing a search for the missing files. it will usually turn up the RPM you need, or atleast give you an idea if no mandrake RPMs are found.
-
what errors do you get when you try to compile? post the exact errors, you might just need a few rpms. or, if you want to concentrate on the RPMs, what errors do you get when you try to install the RPM?
most likely, if the cooker RPM doesn't work, you won't find one that will. my guess is you're missing some dependencies.
i've both compiled waimea and installed it from the RPM on my 9.0 system, so, whatever problems you may run into, I probably already did :).

if KDE looked like this, i might actually consider using it.
maybe.
-
i need to make room for another partition so i can try this out :)

tyme, if you want it, let me know and I'll send it to you.
if it's just the pager, that'd be great. i'll pm you my email

cross over plug-in works decently in same cases. on codeweavers site there is a page describing all the pluses and minuses of their program, what does and doesn't work well. atleast, there used to be. surprisingly, they are actually honest about their software (atleast, as far as i could tell)
-
that's cool. i have a couple directories i always jump back and forth between, this will be very helpful :)
-
instead of ./configure, did you do a "make"?
and if so, what sort of errors did it spit out? if any?
-
if 9.1 makes it out, i'm buying it from their website.
and joining mandrakeclub when i get my big paycheck tomorrow. it's the least i can do.

$20 - The Legend of Dragoon
$18 - Syphon Filter 2
$20 - Final Fantasy Tactics
how are these 3 games? i picked up a PS)ne the other day ($50, not bad!), and the only game i got at the time was "Driver"

i format too often to have a nice desktop :)
i set that one up in under 24 hours. worked on it, maybe, 2 or so hours total. i reformat, but i keep my home directory :) and most of my themes settings and what not are in my home directory.
-
what theme did the icons come from? Very nice screenshot. Naim would look even better without borders. And the style...do you mean fensdesk?
icons are marble or crystal (don't remember which), www.kde-look.org.
yes, fensdesk. the style file when you unzip it is Fenrise

are you using MDK9.0 or an earlier version?

got wampager from sourceforge (since the waimea.org link doesn't work)
tried to compile, the this error:
wampager.c: In function `main':
wampager.c:302: warning: implicit declaration of function `strcmp'
i used to know what that meant, but, i can't remember now..... :-/
-
finally settled with a setup for waimea.
check it out: http://www.tymecc.net/screenshot.png
that's naim in the upper left corner. for some reason i like using it, versus gaim (that gaim icon on my desktop is actually for naim-i need to make a naim icon).
and i'm sure you can figure out what the rest is. the theme i use is Fenrise, you can get it at waimea.org
-
actually...i'm just having issues getting the themes. think i just didn't get it downloaded :) impatience.

-
i already installed waimea from source....ah well, we'll see if this screws it up hehe

was going to get the pager, but keep getting an "insuffecient permissions" error.

i thought i saw a thread concerning this, but i can't seem to find it.
i downloaded phoenix web browser and put the "phoenix" directory in /usr/local, and just run /usr/local/phoenix/phoenix to start it up (there's no way to run a make install so that it goes into a specific directory-i had to copy it over.). however, i can't seem to change the theme...and idea why this might be?
thanks for any help :)

joehill: what size are the icons you used for bbbutton? for some reason i'm getting a gray border type thing around my icons...and i don't think it's from the dockapp, because i have the settings right in there.
-
I know you're not asking me, but it looks like mozilla.
it also looks like one of the themes i saw for phoenix. tho for some reason i can't get themes working in phoenix :-/
