  1. Who really read all the posts in threads like this one? I always read the first one, goes to the last page, read the last two-three, then post my own bragging-list :-)

...not that my PC is too much to brag about anymore...

    Well, here goes:

    Shuttle XPC SN41G2

    AMD Athlon XP2400+ 2.0GHz

    Standard RAM 512MB, 333Mhz

    Nvidia nForce2 with Geforce4 MX

    Plextor CDRW 48x/24x/48x speed

    IBM HD 40GB 7200rpm

    Logitech UltraX Flat Keyboard

    Logitech Wireless Optical Trackman

    LG Studioworks 560LS

Picture and more info here: http://www.pdanorway.com/shuttle.htm

And yes, I buildt it myself.

  2. if memory serves i think it creates a cd-rom drive in /mnt.

about the network wizard, i'd say nat is the way to go, do you have a firewall running on your machine that might prevent your network from going up?

I've mounted the CDROM and run the installation, it asks for the patch to something called ls.... don't remember, sorry, will check and get back to you on that one.

But the important thing is that I don't get networking up, I've tried both NAT and bridged. NAT works on my viritual 2000server and my viritual 2000pro. I've run the network wizard, it detects my card and everything, but still no IP.

I discovered yesterday that under boot, networking fails... but it recognizes my card... what's wrong?

A college of mine has gotten mdk8.2 working under VMware on an exact same laptop without any of the problems I have

  3. Anyone running Mandrake 9.2 in a VMWare session?

I've installed mdk9.2 on my corporate laptop as a viritual VMWare machine. Installation went great (of course, it's Mandrake B) )

... but now I have two problems:

    1. I cant get VMWare Tools installed (not really that important, but any tips would be appreciated).

    2. This is the biggie: MDK recognises my networkcard, but it claims it's down, and I can't get it working... the wizard runs through OK, but it never get a DHCP-adress. I use NAT, should I try bridged f.ex. instead, or any other tips?

I need to get this working to run a test on some monitoring products I'm tech-support for...

  4. Right now I use aMSN (all my friends use MSN, so I really don't need more protocols), but Kmess looks really nice. It seemes difficult to install for a n00b like me, is it?

Anyone tried AYTTM? It looks somewhat cool...

  5. If you download the latest rpm from the Club testing site

Club testing site... you mean Mandrake Club?

I've been thinking about joining, is there any reason to go for anything else but "Standard member"?

Sorry for going off-topic in my own topic

  6. I tried using XMMS, but it crashes every time (the sound continues, but I can't stop it, change it or kill XMMS, need to log-off...) Any ideas why (I use Opera 7.23 web-browser)?

Using Totum worked very well though... thanks for the tip!

  7. The only app I miss from the Windows-world is iTunes... I love to listen to web-radio.

    I saw Rhythmbox, but couldn't install it (yeah, I'm a Linux-n00b...)

Anyone want to give me a how-to to install it, have the link to a functioning .rpm or another web-radio app that works?

Yeah, and I've got Mandrake 9.2.

  8. kernel-source is on the contrib mirrors (or in the updates if you got the updated kernel w/the LG cdrom fix).  then he download the source rpm from the website (not sure exactly where that's at) and did: rpm --rebuild <nameofrpm>.src.rpm

Wow, that was a fast reply, thank you!

The kernel-source? What file is that? I downloaded from here: ftp://ftp.uninett.no/pub/unix/Linux/Mandrake/Mandrake/

Should I store the files somewhere spesial, or just in tmp?

after the rmp --rebuild... is there anything more to do?

  9. Did urpmi source-kernel, rebuilded the source rpm drivers and installed them.

Hi, I'm a real n00b at Linux, and have just installed mdk9.2 on my Shuttle and lost my network-connection (had 9.1 and there the nvidia drivers worked)... could you explain just how you did this?

I have dual-boot with XP and have downloaded the source rpm and the tar.gz, but don't know what to do with them?
