    Backups

I'm trying to use Drakbackup to do my backups automatically, but the problem is it runs out of space (1GB allocated) and then doesn't backup anything more. How can I get it to overwrite the earlier backups when it gets full, so I don't have to just wipe the folder and start again? My current configuration is Backup Sources: - System Files: /etc - User Files: root Me - Save on Hard drive on path: /var/lib/drakbackup Limit disk usage to 1000 MB - Options: Backups use tar and gzip - Daemon, daily via: -Hard drive. I also use incremental backups. Thanks!

    Monopoly?

AFAICS it's playing against other people over a server - is it possible to play against the computer?

    Monopoly?

I would really like a GUI Monopoly game where I can play against the computer - does such a thing exist, and can I run it under 10OE (KDE)?
  4. Norlug has a 0.9.1 rpm - I'm using it at the moment. Don't forget the devel package!
  5. Is this the same modem that OneTel give out (link in previous post)? They're advertising at 15GB/mo at the moment  Anyway, I object to restricted access on principle - the web for the people ! :P
  6. Thanks all! I'm thinking of going with OneTel again (no download restrictions!) - here's their modem. I know absolutely nothing about routers - could some nice person have a look at these routers and give me a few hints about which are the right sort of ones? Thanks!
  7. I'm soon going to be moving out from the cosy world of college internet access to the Big Wide World of broadband, and I'm thinking that I haven't a clue how to connect using Mandrake. Last time I used broadband (from OneTel), I was using XP and just took the modem out of the box, plugged it into the usb port and then stuck the CD in the drive. I'm guessing that the CD wouldn't work on Mandrake, so how would I get on line? I'm thinking of using OneTel again, but will I be able to connect with them? As far as I can tell, all the main providers give out usb modems - will that work OK? Basically, what do I need to do to get broadband working with Mandrake in the UK? Thanks!
  8. Synaptics touchpad I did everything on this page and voila, taplick worked (Dell inspiron 5000e).
  9. Liney and fuzzy sounds about right - that is, until it goes completely blank  I use Mdk10OE, and used the drivers straight from the Nvidia site.
  10. Agh!!! Wretched thing's borked Quake3. I get gkxgears at super-speed, and no start-up locks, but I can't shoot things
  11. I've just installed the newest NVIDIA driver (6106). No problems with the install, but then I tried to play quake 3 - and can't! I can get to the menu screen, but it's all fuzzy and barely viewable, and when I try to click on anything the screen just goes blank. I've kept the same XF86config-4 settings that I had before, under which quake worked fine. Any ideas about what's different? NB I've got a Gforce 4 graphics card.
  12. What make of inspiron? I have a 5000e, and if an external ps/2 mouse is plugged in then that automatically disables the touchpad. If the mouse is still floating around then, then there might be something more wrong... There should be a way of disabling the module in your XF86Config-4 file, though. Can you post the contents of the sections headed Section "Module", Section "InputDevice" and Section "ServerLayout" and we'll go from there, unless anyone has a brighter idea!
  13. I've got 6 USB ports, and I can't tell which are 1.1 and which 2! I've tried the printer on most of them, and it still doesn't work. Is there any way I can disable USB2 on one of the ports? Yes, MCC hardware does detect it. Printerdrake detects it as well and will install it all properly, it just doesn't print!
  14. I've been having problems getting my Epson C44UX printer to print, and the helpline would only support Windoze . They got it working under XP by going into the hardware device manager, expanding USB controllers, right-clicking on the enhanced host controller (this is for USB2) and checking the box "don't tell me about USB errors". Aparrently there's too much traffic at the USB port. So the question is: how do I do this under Mandrake (10OE, kernel 2.6.3-7)? I can't see a similar thing in Hardrake, and all I can think of is adding an option to /etc/modules.conf - but I have no idea what to add! Can anyone help?
  15. OK, can someone just tell me how to reverse what I did, only from the command line? I used mandrake control centre > hardware and then changed log2_irq_thresh on the enhanced USB controller to 1 microframe. Please?
  16. In an attempt to get my printer working, I set the irq latency of the usb enahanced controller to 1. I then restarted, and got dumped to a command prompt. startx doesn't work, and it says there are no screens with proper configuration. I have no idea what's going on, I want my GUI back, I am reduced to using my XP partition now!! NB I don't know how to undo what I did, cos I used hardrake...
  17. It does detect it, and auto configures it as C44UX - but it still won't print!
  18. OK... it's not a printer problem, it's printing fine under XP with the drivers installed from the manufacturer's CD. What's happened with the drivers on Mandrake recently? When I first installed the printer there wasn't a driver for C44UX so I told it to use the one for C42UX, which it did with no problem. Now when I install it, it automatically detects it as 44, says it has a driver etc, but the thing won't print. I've also tried telling it to use the drivers for 42... but that doesn't work any more!! Is there anywhere I can get the latest drivers for mandrake?
  19. I have an Epson stylus C44UX, which seems to have broken - but I thought I'd check here before yelling at the seller :) It's about a month old and worked fine up to now. I run 10OE, printerdrake found it, got the drivers, it printed fine, MTink saw it etc etc. Then it started refusing to print, taking a page a little way into the printer, making the right sort of noises then just stopping and giving the red light. The black ink was at about 15%, so I replaced the cartridge but it's still doing it. I've also checked there's nothing physicallly stuck down the printer, and the page will spool through fine when I turn the printer off. It won't print a test page, but it will print a nozzle check, but the colour bars aren't one atop the other, they're offset. It won't print anything else. It's completely visible to the computer, it just borks when asked to actually print anything. Any ideas?
  20. Uselinux Great people, got mine in the next post.
  21. Okaaaay... Hardrake sayeth I have a Brookdale AGP chipset, so I've set nvagp to "1". A few reboots later, it hasn't locked up, so hopefully... (where's that cross-fingers smilie?)
  22. Thanks for pointing that out, bvc. I tried " Option "NvAgp" "0" ", but it's still doing it with the same frequency :( How do I find out what chipset I've got? I've got an off-the-shelf system so I didn't select it myself - P4, with a gforce 4. Also, the strange thing is that it worked fine with 9.2, no problems there
  23. You could also set it to synchronise with an atomic clock at startup - open up /etc/rc.d/rc.local and add the line rdate -s time.ucla.edu
